Assistant Cook
The Chemeketans, an outdoor club based in Salem, organizes a two-week campout every summer for its members and guests. This coming summer the campout will be at the Nez Perce Homeland Campground outside the town of Wallowa in NE Oregon.
The head cook and assistant cook are responsible for a hot breakfast (7 am) and dinner (6 pm) each day for up to 100 campers. There is no lunch preparation or dish washing responsibilities for the cook or assistant cook. The Assistant Cook works at the direction of the Head Cook just during the Outing.
The camp kitchen is housed in a large tent and our equipment includes 5 propane burners, 3 large propane ovens, a large griddle, all necessary utensils/equipment, and a walk-in refrigerated trailer. A larger dining tent is set up adjacent to the cooking tent. Photos of the camp kitchen setup are available on request.
Qualifications:
Experience cooking for large groups
References
A current food handler’s card
May require verification of covid vaccination
The salary is
Assistant Cook: $1,800-$2,000, depending on experience (for the two weeks)
Mileage reimbursement from Salem is provided
Cooks are to provide their own camp shelter – tent, trailer, van and camping fee is paid.
Cooks get one mid-week full day off each week.
