Apprentice Sail Maker

West Maui Sail and Canvas is proud to offer a comprehensive Apprentice Program for individuals looking to learn the craft of canvas and sail making.

The program includes hands-on training with experienced sailmakers. Apprentices will learn all aspects of marine and residential canvas work, marine cover and shade, sail making including functional understanding of sails and sailing, measurement, design, construction and repair of sails.

The program will consist of the following:

On-the-job training in measurement, cutting, and sewing of marine canvas and sails including out of loft experience

Mentorship from experienced sailmakers

The program will last for a period of 12-24 months, depending on the individual's progress. Upon completion of the program, apprentices will have the knowledge and skills necessary to work as a sailmaker and advance in the industry.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about sailing and have an interest in sail making. If you are physically able to lift and move sails, have strong attention to detail, and are willing to learn, we encourage you to apply for this program.
