Geoprofessional / Construction Materials Technician (field and lab)
A small but growing engineering consulting firm and construction materials testing lab (soil, concrete) (civil engineering and construction industry) is looking for someone who would be excited to:
- Work as a field Geoprofessional Technician and Inspector, performing materials testing and inspection services at construction sites (soil compaction testing, concrete sampling and testing, drilled shaft inspection, pre-pour inspections of slabs and concrete pavement, etc).
- Assist in the soil and concrete laboratory as a Geoprofessional Laboratory Technician.
- Work as a Geoprofessional staff member, assisting with site reconnaissance, staking boring locations, inputting utility locates, and helping prepare geotechnical engineering reports.
Apprentices welcome (no experience required; will train). This is for someone who enjoys splitting time being out at jobsites, working in the soil lab (the "kitchen"), and sitting behind a computer, and likes the diversity/multi-disciplinary nature of the work.
Previous ideal candidates came from different backgrounds such as:
- construction materials technicians from other firms
- recent BS geology degree students who want to try the construction and engineering industry, not oil and gas.
- recent civil engineering BS degree students who like the appeal of diversity of work environment (field, lab, office) and have an interest in geotechnical engineering specialty; if you want to sit behind a desk all day geotechnical is not for you. If you are a current geology or civil eng. student in Austin and want to work part-time to gain experience in the soils lab and in the field at construction sites and with report prep, you are welcome to apply.
- recent high school graduate or college graduate looking for something new and challenging in the engineering/construction industry and does not mind getting hands dirty.
Must have a driver's license. If you have any accidents in past 5 years you need to use your own truck (i.e. own insurance).

Please respond and provide information about yourself unless you have a detailed resume you can email.
Do you have a truck or do you have a car?
Can you get along with different personalities?
Are you a hard (responsible) worker?
Any drug (including pot) issues or alcoholism issues?
Any problem covering 3 AM concrete pours (in the summer concrete at commercial sites is placed in the night)?
Recent high school graduates: $18/hr for 2 months as an apprentice; recent college graduates or more experienced candidates: $20/hr apprentice pay for 2 months; OT is 1.5 x wage rate. Yes there is some OT time/work. Pay goes up after that after you get your ACI (concrete testing) certification, and incrementally once we see what you are capable of (e.g. $21, $22, $23, $24, $25, $26, depending on your skills, reliability, professionalism, certifications, etc;)
+Vacation/PTO/Sick pay, +holiday pay.
This is not a job for lazy people and it is not a 9 AM to 5 PM position every day, although many days that works out. We try to avoid weekend work but some Saturday work and some overnight concrete pour events (e.g. 3 AM) will occur requiring your presence. Do not apply if you are not willing to work in the laboratory. This is a lab, field, and office job.
PTO/Vacation pay accrued; holiday pay; overtime pay; no health insurance plans to pay into, you can use wage money to pay into your own individual plan tailored to your needs without any deductions from us.
