A healthy environment must be maintained with appropriate access, security, availability, performance, capacity, and backups for productivity, efficiency and business continuity. Failure to do so can result in a total loss of business capability and a loss of brand reputation.ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively provision servers and operating systems to ensure capacity and performance
  • Monitor, analyze and report key metrics for environment health, performance and capacity
  • Install and configure server hardware and software
  • Lead the patching and upgrading of systems regularly to minimize business risk
  • Manage administrative rights to the server infrastructure
  • Implement and manage solutions for orchestration, performance and capacity
  • Build and manage public cloud environments
  • Ensure ongoing replication from remote sites for business continuity
  • Integrate solutions and automate as much as possible
  • Lead others in the development of new solutions and management of current operational environment
  • Set service direction and communicate changes to stakeholders, including those in global locations
  • Design and implement solutions that satisfy global requirements or collaborate with remote sites to advise and maintain alignment with global direction
  • Maintain a coherent architecture with interdependent technologies
  • Define, maintain, and continuously optimize the service scope, service catalog, and roadmap
  • Document processes for managing solutions within the service scope
  • Define roles and responsibilities for members of the ecosystem, including users, supporting service owners, and different levels of service management staff
  • Influence and/or set standards for services outside of scope
  • Identify and communicate security vulnerabilities and other business risks, including those that may be beyond immediate scope
  • Cooperate with peers to resolve multi-system problems that cannot be resolved immediately
  • Create project plans, lead projects, and complete project tasks on-time
  • Ensure accurate inventory and consistent configurations
  • Manage server partners and vendors
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
  • Server hardware + Windows (hyperconverged, Nutanix, Cisco UCS, Lenovo, and similar server systems)
  • Public and private/on-premises cloud stack (OpenStack, Nutanix, Docker, Hyperflex, VxRail, Azure, AWS)
  • DevOps scripting (open-source, Jenkins, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Vagrant, GitHub, Sensu, Snort, Logstash)
  • VMware (vSphere CLI, vCenter, SRM, vCloud Director, vRealize)
  • Public cloud (Azure, AWS, others) including Office 365 services and online services
  • SaaS (Software as a Service integration, ADFS/SAML, EDI, file transfer)
  • Enterprise Identity Management (AD/LDAP, global/distributed sites, GPOs, OU design)
  • Linux Server OS (security hardening, clustering, perf. tuning, adv. troubleshooting)
  • Development/Scripting (large-scale, from scratch, shell, Perl, Rails, Python, Java, PowerShell)
  • SAN/NAS (VMware vSAN, retention policies, data tiering, cold storage, remote site replication)
  • Infrastructure services, such as DNS, SMTP, DHCP, NIS, LDAP, Active Directory, FTP and databases
  • Networking (routing, perf. troubleshooting, security, load balancers)
  • Security (certificates, Cas, anti-malware, anti-ransomware, DDoS)
  • Connected infrastructure, including networking, storage, security, and external clouds
  • Expertise in designated technical subjects

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • This position is, at its core, a technical position. A special expertise is required in server hardware, virtualization, operating systems, and the supporting infrastructure. Just as important, especially at higher levels, is the service ownership responsibility. As a service owner, this position leads others and needs to build and maintain standards and policies, often leveraging peers or external resources to support the environment at global scale.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related area, or equivalent additional work experience required.
  • Minimum 7 years' system engineer experience in a team environment
  • Minimum 5 years of Windows & Linux server operating systems and server hardware experience
  • Minimum 5 years of virtualization experience
  • Knowledge of DevOps culture, methodologies and technologies is a plus
  • Success working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Certification in Virtualization, Linux, server hardware, project management or relevant areas are a plus
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy laws and practices is a plus
