We focus on complex challenges that disproportionately impact children and communities of color and on solutions that require multiple public systems to change their policies, practices and culture.
Position
NCYL seeks a Senior Education Liaison for the Compassionate Systems initiative demonstration site in Monterey County, a collaboration with Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. Our Monterey demonstration site is aimed at improving education outcomes for youth that are experiencing homelessness (identified as McKinney- Vento eligible) by providing educational supports and services that engage youth in school, empower youth to drive their own educational futures, and connect youth to family members, teachers, coaches and other natural supports who will champion their educational success. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about advocating on behalf of students and supporting academic success.
Essential Functions
Improve educational outcomes for students experiencing homelessness while attending school in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District by working directly with youth to identify their educational goals, utilizing effective education planning, advocacy and addressing barrier to full educational engagement
Participate in school site and district meetings to advance awareness of challenges, and educational supports needed by students experiencing homelessness
Identify school based and external community-based resources to address student needs and support for students and make appropriate referrals
Track required data in a web-based case management tool in a consistent and timely manner
Lead meetings and activities of a county-wide Youth Advisory Board in partnership with local and state partners
Participate in local advocacy efforts to raise awareness about challenges impacting students experiencing homelessness, and advocacy solutions to improve educational outcomes
Support capacity-building efforts with site based, district and county partners, via presentations and trainings to community partners
Support demonstration site reporting and evaluation efforts, including drafting funder or program reports, and highlight program progress

Demonstrated ability to utilize a racial justice lens
Knowledge about and ability to advocate in education and or youth homelessness
Knowledge of Monterey County, youth homelessness and community-based resources
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and coordinate services with community agencies in a professional manner
Ability to work well autonomously and as a part of a team
Demonstrated ability to build rapport with youth and families
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to stay organized with multiple work streams and frequent change
Excellent creative problem-solving skills
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
Ability to pass a DOJ & FBI background check
Car and valid California driver’s license
Ability to navigate cloud servers, Zoom, phone systems and other software.
Position is currently remote, with long term colocation at school sites
A friendly demeanor with a sense of humor
Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The salary is competitive salary at $75,618. NCYL provides health, dental, vision, life, short and long-term disability insurance, vacation and sick benefits, commuter benefits and employer contribution to a retirement plan.
