Summary The Office of the Clerk for U.S. House of Representatives is seeking a dynamic, customer focused senior UX designer to join our team, which is dedicated to building and supporting systems critical to the U.S. House of Representatives and used by Members of Congress, Committees, other internal agencies, and the public. This position will focus on user research and visual design (user interfaces, et.al.) for several IT systems. Responsibilities The Office of the Clerk for U.S. House of Representatives is seeking a dynamic, customer focused senior UX designer to join our team, which is dedicated to building and supporting systems critical to the U.S. House of Representatives and used by Members of Congress, Committees, other internal agencies, and the public. This position will focus on user research and visual design (user interfaces, et.al.) for several IT systems. As an experienced UX designer, the applicant must have the temperament to conduct interviews with users from all levels, create and explain designs to technical and non-technical staff, and work with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner. The applicant must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of responsibilities. Attention to detail, thoroughness in work and being proactive are a must. RESPONSIBILITIES · Gather and evaluate user requirements, in collaboration with product managers, analysts, engineers, and others; this could be through formal interviews, informal conversations, contextual inquiry, workshops, or analytics research · Identify target user groups and carry out interviews or other types of inquiry to help understand user needs. · Deliver whatever is needed to guide development by producing designs and mockups through wireframes, flow diagrams, visual and graphic designs, storyboards, user stories, sitemaps, or other innovative approaches. Gain confidence and buy-in from stakeholders. · Support collaborative decision making by telling compelling stories drawn from research to build shared understanding · Provide advice and guidance on the implementation of UX research methodologies and testing activities to analyze and predict user behavior. · Clearly communicate the value and methods of human-centered design · Contribute to team-wide resources and training materials, including methods, tutorials, guides, presentations, and design toolkits. · Share knowledge, techniques, tools, patterns, and expert advice with colleagues, partners, and the public. · Work across the organization to maintain a style guide ensuring consistency with all Clerk products in the use of common design elements, branding, and the like. · Perform other official duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications · Appropriate background, experience, and education. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred. · A minimum of two years of design experience is required; Six or more years of design experience is preferred. · Ability to perform the major duties described above. · Strong knowledge and experience with design software and wireframe tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe XD and Invision. · Knowledgeable of human centered design principles. · Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. · Experience supporting and working closely with project customers and in cross-functional project and product teams. · Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail. · Knowledge of legislation and the legislative process is a plus.
