Video Researcher (Remote)

I am a video journalist focusing on urbanism, creating content that explores cities, infrastructure, transportation, and urban design. My videos blend compelling storytelling with carefully selected archival footage, news clips, documents, and relevant b-roll to illustrate complex topics.

I'm looking for an organized and resourceful video researcher to join my team remotely. Your role will involve finding relevant archival clips, news segments, images, and b-roll from online resources such as the Library of Congress Online, Internet Archive, TV News Archive, creative commons sources, and stock footage sites like Storyblocks (I would provide all logins needed).

Here are the qualities I'm seeking in the ideal candidate:

Experience in archival research, fact checking or journalism research, especially sourcing video clips, images, and newspaper articles online is a plus.

Familiarity with platforms like Library of Congress, Internet Archive, or Storyblocks, or eagerness to quickly learn these resources.

Strong organizational skills to effectively catalog and reference clips.

An eye for visual storytelling and an understanding of how archival materials can complement narratives about urbanism.

Ability to work independently, manage your time effectively, and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication skills. Comfortable clarifying tasks and collaborating remotely via email or messaging platforms.

Interest or background in journalism, urban planning, architecture, history, or related fields is a significant plus.

Responsibilities:

Conduct detailed research to source relevant video clips, images, newspapers, and other media.

Organize and catalog sourced materials for easy retrieval and incorporation into video projects.

Work remotely and independently, with flexible hours totaling approximately one week per month (you can choose your hours).

Here is an example showcasing the type of research and visual materials I'm looking for. This video includes numerous b-roll clips, images, and news clips carefully integrated to enhance storytelling—your role would involve finding similar visual content:

Compensation:

$25/hour as a contractor.

This role is fully remote, with flexible hours totaling approximately one week per month (you can choose your hours).

This position is ideal for someone with a flexible schedule looking for supplementary work. Your contributions will directly shape engaging videos viewed by audiences passionate about urban design and city life.

As this video work grows, this position could expand to additional hours if the candidate has interest.

If you have experience or a strong interest in video research and urban storytelling, please send your resume and a cover letter outlining why you'd like to work on this project and why you would be a good fit (applications that do not provide this information or are clearly written by AI will be ignored). We can start a conversation and I’ll tell you more about my work.

I look forward to hearing from you!
