Digital Anthropologist / UX Researcher

Job Description

What You’ll Do

  • Use any method necessary – qualitative or quantitative – to gain deeper user insights.
  • Paint a picture of our current and future users that can be easily understood by anyone at the company without compromising the richness of data collected
  • Communicate research results to multiple groups, showing them how they can apply the results to their work
  • Work with Product Managers and other leaders to prioritize research initiatives
  • Work with the VP of UX to create processes and standards for ethnographic research
  • Synthesize data about users uncovered by other teams at Tricentis, including Product Management, Customer Success and Support

Qualifications

Who You Are

  • You have experience with multiple research methods (1:1 interviews, contextual inquiries, surveys, and diary studies), as well as experience in the tech industry. We’d love to see at least 8 years of experience using multiple methods and at least 4 years of experience in the tech industry, but we’ll make an exception for exceptionally talented people.
  • You’re friendly, approachable and able to distill complex topics so that people from diverse professional backgrounds can easily understand them. People want to work with you because you provide great insight and value to their work and because you’re fun to work with.
  • Your passion for understanding users is only dwarfed by your passion for sharing that understanding with as many people as you can.
  • You are comfortable with research being a support function to Product Management and Design. You work with them to establish timelines and priorities
  • You believe research should be as inclusive as possible and you enjoy empowering others to conduct their own research if you do not have the time to do it yourself.
  • You like to take part in design ideation sessions.

Your First Three Months

  • Month 1: You’ll be in “listen and learn” mode. You’ll meet with many people throughout the company to understand how their activities can be tied back to an understanding of the user. You’ll also use our products and learn the software testing lingo.
  • Month 2: You’ll implement a process for capturing research needs, prioritizing them and executing on studies. Don’t worry though, the VP of UX will partner with you on this. You’ll also create a plan for our first “big dig” to understand our users better.
  • Month 3: You’ll have conducted interviews with current and future users. You’ll have a first draft of findings to present to the Product group.
