job summary:The Head of Solutions Engineering leads the team responsible for managing all aspects of Solutions Engineering at our client with a goal to gain competitive advantages, support business needs and set innovative strategies in conjunction with other leaders in Information Technology. This key leadership position implements and enforces best practices and coding standards, ensures delivery of key projects on time and with high quality, and provides technical leadership for a team of talented and collaborative software developers. location: West Des Moines, Iowajob type: Permanentsalary: $125,000 - 140,000 per yearwork hours: 8am to 4pmeducation: Bachelors responsibilities:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact between end users, support personnel, and software engineering teams. Collaborates with business unit leaders, applications systems leaders, technology leaders, vendors and industry experts in order to map business requirements into technology solutions.
  • Ensures designed solutions are successfully implemented and delivered, and participates in all phases of the SDLC process workflow to optimize delivery of technology solutions.
  • Provides clear and valuable documentation and communication in order to support the software engineering teams.
  • Conducts research on new and emerging technologies for practical application to business problems and strategic initiatives.
  • Reviews the current technology landscape and partners with Enterprise Architecture to seek ways to leverage, improve and/or extend corporate technology investments.
  • Drives consistent engineering practices and enforce standards and best practices.
  • Drives new technology for American Equity technology platforms, while ensuring reliability of existing systems.
  • Measures and optimizes Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to ensure on time delivery of key projects.
  • Provides overall management and mentorship of full-stack Solutions Engineering team and ensures the right team structures and development processes have consistent practices, all the while providing technical leadership on key technology projects.
  • Partners with IT talent managers to recruit and retain top notch talent and coach and mentor team members.
  • Improves code quality and supports a culture of strong engineering practices, delivery and quality.
  • Develops, measures, and improves software engineering KPIs (velocity, quality, complexity, test coverage, etc)
  • Develops, tests, and contributes improvements to applications, especially as proof of concepts to set design patterns.
  • Helps to triage and resolve escalated issues in adherence to defined SLAs.
  • Tracks, coordinates, and help prioritize work within the software development lifecycle.
  • Seeks out and advocates for reduction of technical debt, refactoring opportunities, performance optimizations, re-architecting opportunities.
  • Continues to improve systems, processes and documentation for the Solutions Engineering teams.
  • Accountable for prudent management of departmental expenses by establishing and monitoring a department budget in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
