MACHINE OPERATOR CUSTODIAN, Facilities-Custodial Services, to clean all assigned areas of the Institute, which may include classrooms, laboratories, research facilities, conference rooms, lounges, hallways, stairwells, entryways, elevators, private offices, auditoriums, and gymnasiums. Will refinish and maintain hard surface flooring in accordance with department standards and procedures; cleans carpets and operate floor cleaning machinery, including auto scrubbers and burnishers; secure areas such as entrance and office doors; empty trash and recycling receptacles located inside buildings and place trash and recycling in bins and dumpsters; clean restrooms and restock with supplies; clean and polish furniture; clean chalk boards, trays, and erasers; clean spaces before and after events, possibly assisting with arranging existing furniture in a room; move furniture as required to perform regular cleaning duties; dry mop, wet mop, and vacuum floor; dust and spot clean walls and doors in high and low areas; clean drinking fountains, interior window sand interior/exterior doorway windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces; occasionally clean up water and debris due to leaks and floods with wet pick up vacuums; and utilize motorized cart to move tilt truck receptacles. May be required to move related equipment and stock from one building to another. Job RequirementsREQUIRED: ability to lift weights of up to 50 lbs. and push and pull tilt trucks and other carts that hold up to 100 lbs. Two years’ relevant experience and a high school diploma or its equivalent preferred. Job #19044 The schedule for the position is Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M. Those hired on or after January 1, 2016, must have a valid driver’s license regardless of shift assignment. Those hired prior to January 1, 2016, are not required to have a valid driver’s license on the regular evening or night shift. Those already assigned to the day shift or the irregular shift, which includes weekends and holidays, on or before January 1, 2016, are not required to have a valid driver’s license. Those assigned to the day shift or the irregular shift after January 1, 2016, must have a valid driver’s license regardless of his/her date of hire. Those who possess a valid driver’s license, even though the license is not a job requirement, may be asked to drive on a voluntary basis. 11/2/20 MIT will conduct a background check (including checking criminal records) for finalists. For current MIT SEIU members, this background check will be done for finalists who are bidding for a promotion or for a voluntary transfer to another classification or seniority unit.
