divuJob Summary:/u The sitter is an employee, trained to provide companionship, observation, and surveillance of assigned patients that are in the acute care hospital setting. The Adult Sitter summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance. He/she functions under the direction, instruction and supervision of the staff nurse at the hospital and Manager.Essential Duties: ulliAssists in maintaining a healthful and safe environment through observation and surveillance./li/ululliKeeps the assigned patient in constant eye contact at all assigned times./li/ululliAssists the assigned patient with ambulating by providing stand-by assistance./li/ululliFollows universal precautions whenever giving any aspect of patient observation and surveillance./li/ululliMaintains confidentiality./li/ululliPerforms only those functions of observations, surveillance, and stand by assistance, when ambulating, assigned patient./li/ululliFollows emergency procedures in the event of any emergency incident, e.g. accident, injury or significant changes in the patient's condition./li/ululliThrough observation and surveillance, Reports any changes in patient's mental or physical condition, as well as suspicion of ingesting questionable substances or items./li/ululliDemonstrates understanding and proficiency in use of patient observation and communication technology./li/ululliImmediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance./li/uluMinimum Job Qualifications:/uulliEducation: High School diploma or equivalent /liliExperience: None /liliSkills Abilities: Ability to read, write, consistent with job requirements. Ability effectively to communicate with patients at the bedside if required, ability to communicate using microphone and headset. Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes. Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, family members, visitors, and staff. Practices good hygiene and is neat in personal appearance.
