Performs faculty duties in the Dept of Electrical/Computer Engineering in the Graduate School of Engineering and Management at AFIT.ResponsibilitiesTeaches graduate-level courses in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science, which form parts of accredited Masters and doctoral degree programs, as well as parts of professional continuing education programs.Develops courses and sequences of courses in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science for degree programs and continuing education, which meet the Air Force's dynamic educational needs.Plans and executes a program of research in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science.Works directly with Air Force and Department of Defense (DoD) organizations to meet research needs. Collaborates and works well with colleagues to accomplish individual and organizational research goals.Regularly publishes research results in archival journals and presents at technical conferences. Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates research programs of masters and doctoral students.Provides authoritative consultation in one or more areas of electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science to Air Force and DoD organizations.Serves on department and school administrative and academic committees.Mentors and manages the educational progress of MS and PhD students. Provides annual written feedback and reports on MS and PhD students as prescribed by Air Force and AFIT Operating Instructions.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsDesirable Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field by the time of the appointment. All academic ranks will be considered. We are particularly interested in applicants specializing in one or more of the following areas: autonomy, artificial intelligence / machine learning, navigation with or without GPS, cyber security, or VLSI. Other areas of research specialization will be considered. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or in a related field. Demonstrated professional knowledge of foundational and advanced topics associated with electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science. These areas include, but are not limited to: discrete mathematics and logic; communications; radar; electromagnetics; microelectromechanical systems; VLSI design; computer/digital engineering; computer architecture; data structures; programming languages; algorithm design and analysis; computer operating systems; and automata theory. Expertise in at least one of the following areas: discrete mathematics and logic, communications; radar; electromagnetics; low observables; electronic warfare; electro-optics; signal processing; guidance, navigation, and control; microelectronics; microelectromechanical systems; VLSI design; computer/digital engineering; computer architecture; database system design and analysis; high-performance computing; software engineering; computer networking; information operations; artificial intelligence; computer graphics; and visualization. Faculty in any of these areas will have at least a year of formal education and a year of research in these areas beyond the Masters of Science degree. Possess the ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative and technical subject matters. At the Assistant Professor Rank: For an initial appointment to the academic rank of Assistant Professor, applicants should have a strong potential for both teaching and research at the graduate level. Applicants should have a distinguished academic record and the background, commitment, and desire to teach graduate classes, conduct research, and publish. At the Associate Professor Rank: In addition to the criteria for an Assistant Professor, an initial appointment to the academic rank of Associate Professor must be based on convincing evidence that the individual has demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The candidate must have 5 years of significant professional experience after having earned the doctoral degree. This will normally include no fewer than 3 years of full-time, university-level teaching at the Assistant Professor rank or higher. Alternatively, for those with fewer than 3 years of teaching experience, the requirement is 6 years of significant professional experience with research credentials normally expected of a full Professor. At the Full Professor Rank: In addition to the criteria for an Associate Professor, an initial appointment to the academic rank of Professor must be based on convincing evidence that the faculty member has a sustained record of excellence in teaching, has produced a significant body of scholarship that is recognized nationally or internationally, and has demonstrated leadership in service to the discipline. The candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of significant professional experience after having earned the doctoral degree. This will normally include no fewer than 6 years of full-time, university-level teaching with a minimum of 3 years at the Associate Professor rank or higher. Alternatively, for those with fewer than 6 years of teaching experience, the requirement is 10 years of significant professional experience with research credentials substantially more than those normally expected of a full Professor. Applicants will be assessed based on education, evidence of teaching effectiveness, quality of scholarship, and demonstrated service to educational institutions and the discipline commensurate with years in the discipline. Essential qualities expected of every faculty member include the personal attributes of integrity, industry, cooperation, initiative, enthusiasm, and breadth of intellectual interests.EducationEDUCATION:You MUST provide original copies of ALL OFFICIAL transcripts for degrees being pursued or obtained (or letter of degree completion if an OFFICIAL transcript is not available due to recent graduation) to support your educational claims as stated in your curriculum vitae. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. FOREIGN EDUCATION:Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program.
