Job Description

The primary function ofa Waterpark Engineer/Pool Technicianis to perform maintenance and repair work on swimming pool facilities, and related mechanical equipment, including electrical, pump and filtration, and plumbing systems. Additionally, the team member maintains chemical balances and the related chemical testing and injection systems. Duties include general maintenance on swimming pool buildings, including shower and dressing rooms, offices, and classrooms. An team member in this class may be assigned to other maintenance duties in the Citys Community Services Department.

DUTIES

  • Performs maintenance and repair work on swimming pool facilities and related mechanical and chemical systems, including electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Performs facility maintenance work including carpentry, painting, drywall, electrical, plumbing, tiling, concrete and plastering tasks related to installation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and systems.
  • Vacuums, cleans, and backwashes pool waters.
  • Monitors and adjusts chemical levels of pool water, including maintenance of chemical testing and injection systems.
  • Operates pumps, filters, chemical injectors, aerator systems and chlorinators.
  • Performs regular inspections of swimming pool mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, filters, chemical feed systems, pool boilers, booster pumps, water slides, interactive water features, rain drops, and water spray pads, etc.
  • Maintains and repairs vacuum, sweeper, filtration, and pump systems.
  • Maintains, repairs, and calibrates chemical injection systems, including changing and recharging containers.
  • Maintains, repairs, and makes alterations on building facilities, including shower and dressing rooms, offices, classrooms, and concession areas.
  • Maintains water heater and boiler systems.
  • Performs maintenance and repair work on swimming pool deck, pool wall and floor areas, including setting forms, pouring and finishing concrete, and plastering;
  • Monitors pool chemical and supply inventory.
  • Maintains written maintenance and repair records.
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures.
  • Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions. Follows City-wide safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Citys Safety
  • Handbook.
  • Maintainsresort fountains and related mechanical, electrical, and pumping systems.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESMay lead and direct daily operational work of other technical staff.

Qualifications

Team Member is required to have an understanding of the following:

  • Operate power equipment.
  • Operate hand tools.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
  • Prepare written reports and maintain system maintenance and performance records.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and other team members.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or GED equivalency; andOne (1) to two (2) years of experience in building and facilities maintenance; andCertified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification within six (6) months of hire date; andHazardous material handling training within six (6) months of hire date; andValid Drivers License; orAny equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

One (1) year experience in the care, maintenance, and repair of large, commercial or public swimming pools and associated equipment and facilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSCertified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification within six (6) months of hire date; andHazardous material handling training within six (6) months of hire date.
