What We’re Looking for:

The Estimator quotes structural steel, miscellaneous steel, engineering, erection and installation processes and services. Through direct experience envisions difficult installation and fabrication scenarios and knows not everything quoted can be decided by a formula.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review structural plan take off for accuracy and completeness
  • Work with detailer/estimate modeler to ensure takeoff/model includes all necessary information
  • Work with Tekla EPM MRP software to complete estimate cost analysis
  • Develop Tekla EPM standard to better estimate going forward
  • Maintain ownership of current pricing for all goods and services for fabricating structural steel
  • Review estimates relative to manufacturing capabilities and highlight areas of concern
  • Quantifies number of shop and detailing hours to fabricate structural steel and miscellaneous metals.
  • Evaluates all contract documents including all bid drawings, specifications, general conditions and if necessary, the project site.
  • Decides scope of work for our trade and decides vague areas to qualify bids.
  • Develops comprehensive, detailed proposal for the project estimated
  • Posts bid negotiations with client and EMIT Sales staff to decide final scopes of work and assigns values to items that may be revised or removed.
  • Posts bid “value engineering” to help negotiate final contract with EMIT Sales staff and client.
  • Assists Project Management staff with pricing issues on major project revisions.

Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Minimum of 2 years estimating experience in structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication and erection a plus.
  • 2-year college degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience with miscellaneous metals preferred.
  • Project Management experience preferred.
  • Good language skills, both written and oral.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Working Knowledge of Tekla Software preferred, but not required.
  • Bluebeam: Basic understanding of creating and editing combined pdf sets
  • Previous experience reviewing and interpreting Contract Documents for necessary information (member sizes, locations, and elevations; navigating and understanding structural notes and details)
  • General knowledge of constructability of structural items to be able to best understand the possible intent of the design when details or information are missing or not clear
  • General knowledge of model exports for estimating in Tekla EPM/PowerFab (IFC, KISS, XML, STEP, etc.)
