Vacancy expired!

wikiHow is seeking talented, ambitious, college-educated content creators to help us further our mission of teaching anyone in the world how to do anything. As a remote, full-time writer for wikiHow, you will enhance, edit, and create appealing material that teaches readers how to do anything — from how to bake a classic apple pie to how to make friends in middle school (and everything in between). Please note that you will be asked to conceptualize, write, and revise various forms of content – this is not a copyediting position.

If you’re passionate about writing and a motivated self-starter, this might be the position for you! This remote position is for a full-time 40-hour work week during regular business hours. The position includes basic benefits, and though the work is remote, we will always support your writing with thoughtful review and individual help if you need it.

What you’ll do:

Produce beautiful, thoughtfully written prose in a fast-paced and supportive environment

Work on a wide range of topics in a variety of formats

Help readers by writing in a conversational, friendly tone that shows empathy for their problems

Research articles to provide the best information for our millions of readers

Participate in other content-related tasks as needed

What you’ll bring:

College degree, preferably in English, Creative Writing, or another writing-intensive field

Experience researching, writing, editing, evaluating, and organizing content

Ability to write in a clear, engaging, and friendly tone across a variety of topics

Motivation and drive to work independently

Commitment to both the big picture and routine parts of completing a project

Eagerness for constructive feedback

Dedication to providing the highest quality work

Note: This is a 40 hour per week, two-year fellowship, which in some cases can be extended for a third year. Hourly pay depends on qualifications and experience but ranges from $15-$18.

To apply, please send a brief introductory email with the subject line “Editing Fellow - NOLA.” The email should include your resume and ONE writing sample, which can be any piece you’re comfortable sharing: academic essays, short fiction, previous work, etc. If you have an example of published work intended for a broad audience, please share that.

We will be reviewing and contacting applicants about next steps. You'll need to pass an initial editing test as part of our application process. If you pass our initial test, you’ll then have the opportunity to complete a paid trial that can last up to one week, where a project manager will help you get up to speed with our writing conventions and formatting requirements. If the trial goes well, we'll move forward with hiring.
