Skiver Operator - $22.88/hr.

Job Description

• Comply with facility safety requirements including wearing the required PPE and following all of the safety rules and procedures.
• Prepares shiver for operation by turning on machine display.
• Adjust belt tension and height after replacement to ensure cartons feed levelly through the machine.
• Adjust the width of the seam by turning the crank handle on the frame.
• Does minor repair work on the line by taking off and replacing rollers, bearings, bolts, and machine parts on the line.
• Ensure the skiver is sharpening its blades by inspecting for small particles coming from skiver.
• Fill in for feeder during breaks by feeding the line in their absence.
• Fill in for packer operator during their breaks by conducting quality inspections in their absence.
• Follow safety procedures by using the lockout tag out rules when working on the line.
• Inspect the formation of the cartons to be sure they are folding properly by visual inspection.
• Make adjustment to the foot and feed roll by using the touch screen control panel.
• Make minor adjustments to the heat by feeding 10 to 20 cartons through the sealer, adjusting gas and air flow knobs and visually inspecting the results.
• Make sure the boxes are positioned properly in the packer by visually inspecting formed box.
• Make sure the sealing tape is placed correctly on the boxes by making visual inspections.
• Set the foot and feed roller gap manually using carton thickness as a guide.
• Set up line for production run by first starting the burners turning them on using a turn switch.
• Start packer portion of line by turning switches to switch on, make box, start incline, and start conveyor.
• Turn skiver on by using operating push button switch at the bottom of machine.
• Utilizing display touch screen to adjust skiver blade sharpening times by adjusting time period between sharpening and number of times machine sharpens.
• Blow down the line by using air hose as needed to prevent defective cartons from being produced and look for and problems that can be prevented.
• Clean the stencil as needed by purging the ink and cleaning the stencil pads.
• Complete work order requests by using computer to input the maintenance requests.
• Correct carton flow down the line by making minor adjustments in speed control or by adjusting crank on frame.
• Ensure cartons are moving correctly down the slow belt by observing carton flow.
• Ensure proper machine set up and operation by feeding 10 to 20 cartons into the line and inspecting for defects.
• Inspect boxes for proper placement and clarify of stencil by visual inspection of boxes.
• Make adjustments in packer by using wrench to make in and out adjustments.
• Replace worn or broken belts by manually loosening pulleys and rethreading new belt on to pulleys.
• Utilize alcohol test to ensure a good seam is formed on the carton by soaking in alcohol bath then pulling seam apart while visually inspecting for shininess.
• Utilize teat to verify a good seam by pulling seam apart and inspecting for shiny areas along seam line.
• Utilize the Leary System to align, set triggers and sensors to kick out bad cartons by adjusting laser position.
• Verify the thickness of the seam by measuring with a table mounted indicator.
• Verify the width of the seam by measuring with a digital caliper.
• Warm up production line by pressing start button prior to feeding in any cartons to ensure all parts of the line are functioning properly.
• Calculate waste weight by noting weight on scale and subtracting tare weight and noting the weight on the log.
• Clean burners every two hours by using the air grinder and putty knife.
• Using a calculator, calculate number of cartons produced on by multiplying the feed count by the number of cartons in boxes every two hours.
• Utilize burn test to evaluate seam by heating seam on heat bench then pulling seam apart, looking for shininess, which is an indication of a bad seam.
• Understand and comply with all Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements.

• Accredited High School Diploma/GED & Work Key Certificate

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience using tools
