Job Description

Twitter is in the process of building an AI-first company. Every major initiative we pursue is increasingly dependent on the successful application of machine learning. To develop the next generation of the Twitter ML Platform, one that is fair and transparent, we must empower internal teams at Twitter to efficiently leverage ML by unifying, educating, and advancing the state of the art in ML technologies within Twitter. At the same time, we need to significantly increase the velocity with which we ship successful products to our external customers by creating easy-to-use systems and self-service tools that reduce complexity of the end-to-end product development experience for the engineers and developers on our internal teams.

We are looking for an experienced Research Director who will collaborate with Machine Learning teams across the company to gather insights and find opportunities for us to improve the ML Platform tools and libraries that we provide, You will help us craft a long-term vision for what the ideal ML Platform for Twitter looks like as well as a roadmap to get us there. Collaborating closely with engineering and product teams, they'll work to make sure that we are solving for the needs of the organization in the future, not just those of today, and take responsibility for making that vision a reality. You will also work with the ‘Velocity’ team that is focused on establishing a deep and comprehensive understanding of our internal customers and their current end-to-end experience to better inform future vision, strategy and measurement. You will also be responsible for building a high-performing, diverse and multidisciplinary team of exceptional researchers

What You’ll Do

As a member of our Research Leadership team you will work with senior leaders to shape our strategy & products for internal developers by actively championing an internal user-centered process that integrates insights and feedback throughout the software and ML development cycle, and will also act as a partner to the product development team in Cortex, finding creative ways to strengthen the link to the internal customers during the ML development process. You will also develop and maintain a deep understanding of the needs and challenges facing the diverse and global set of developers and data scientists who build on the ML platform today.

Your mission will be to help strengthen the Research practice across the developer community, educating and gaining buy-in for your research, being present and participatory during business discussions and always bringing to light the needs of ML engineers in a way that informs better, more customer-centric decision making.

Qualifications

Who You Are:You obsess over helping create solutions and experiences that design people. You facilitate critical conversations with ease and have no trouble working with and juggling the (at times) contending priorities of multiple teams operating in different timezones. You approach problems with multiple solutions in mind, and quickly pivot when needed to better account for newly-discovered data and insight.
