TEAM DESCRIPTION:The Search Engine Unit Team focuses on the document processing pipeline, report generation, and content intake/web crawler infrastructure at Turnitin.

We are the core of the integrity solutions across the TurnItIn product, working with multiple product lines that all call into our service with submissions, producing reports that achieve our best in class quality for integrity verification. The team culture is best described as “no-nonsense small group of engineers” and our pace and environment are flexible and also informal. Our team includes a diverse mix of nationality, race, college majors and also spans quite an age range. We value diversity in background and thought and know it is crucial to the success of our team. We are looking for someone who likes solving hard problems and writing elegant solutions to those problems and also is easy to talk with and enjoys hanging out with the team also.

WHAT YOU’LL DO AND ACHIEVE:You will be introduced to the ecosystem that we live in, learn the architectures and then be assigned a mentor with whom you will focus on extending and refactoring one of our apps. We are light on process and a very personal group, so there will be a few meetings you will be part of, but otherwise there will be a lot of time coding the solution and also writing tests. Some of the tasks you will be asked to do will require some research (non-obvious solutions) and assessment of possible solutions.

Qualifications

  • Current US undergraduate student who will graduate by June 2022

  • Computer science major with experience in theory/systems/networks

  • Understanding of REST

  • Proficient in Golang (though experience with Java/C can substitute)

  • Proficient with the command line + Linux + git

  • Understanding of test-driven development and CICD processes

Nice to have:

  • Experience using AWS services (Lambda, SQS, S3, etc)

  • Understanding of Kubernetes + terraform
