Job Description

The Opportunity.

  • Perform lockouts by following the safety procedures for each line or section of a line.
  • Replace broken or worn out belts by stopping line, performing LOTO, and loosening the idle pulley to remove old belt.
  • Respond to requests from inspector by following up on reported quality issues.
  • Adjust coordination of speed of both line sections by turning knob on control panel for sealer and coordination of speed with touch screen on packer.
  • Adjust side to side shaft pressure by loosening collar and sliding shaft up or down as required.
  • Adjust the production line by reading carton seams and appearances for indications of off quality conditions.
  • Be sure the production line has case separators for the packer by moving them from storage area to line.
  • Check dry spots by tearing cartons both forward and backwards and observing seams closing.
  • Check lines down for more than four hours by inspecting line for foreign matter and completing check sheet.
  • Check machine set up at the beginning of shift by marketing cartons and running them through the line and inspecting the finished sample.
  • Check seams for defects by using the heat bench to separate the carton seam and observing any signs of slickness that indicates a problem of sealing.
  • Check seams for leaks by dropping cut samples in the alcohol bath then separating the seams looking for shininess and indication of bad seam.
  • Communicate major equipment problems with machine or equipment by completing maintenance work order.
  • Do an inspection of the line near beginning of shift by visually walking the line and making observations of settings.
  • Ensure that machine parts, bolts, and assemblies are tight and functioning properly by performing constant visual checks during shift.
  • Inspect line for proper production by continually walking around machine, observing each stage of production to ensure proper function.
  • Perform Dry Tear and Peel Check during the shift by tearing carton in both directions and inspect for shinny spots and loose poly.
  • Perform PM on machines by observing machine items listed on PM checklist.
  • Perform various quality checks by following the tests on the quality check list that are required every two hours.
  • Protect hand and product cleanliness by putting on gloves.
  • Remove bad cartons form the line by physically picking them up and throwing them into the discard bin.
  • Respond to findings when making PM checks by making minor adjustments and machine repairs.
  • Respond to issues regarding worn or broken belts y communicating with maintenance department.
  • Visually check side to side pressure by moving 50 cartons into magazine and reading level on top.
  • After three samples have been run, the head operator records the ratio of the bend results onto the Daily Bend Ratio Sheet by reading the results on the tester.
  • Clean water bars by using scraper to remove excess poly build-up.
  • Perform the Score Bend Ratio Testing by taking three cartons off the line and transporting them to the lab.
  • Record quality checks on the FM-7212 form by writing down results.
  • Supply packer with boxes by moving them from storage area to the production line using forklift truck.
  • Adjust speed by pressing speed indicator button on the Panel View 1000 touch screen.
  • Clean machine by performing blow down of the line when feeder is away from machine.
  • Document machine by writing machine number, shift and problem on production board.
  • Help feeder catch up when possible by straightening out and lining up new cartons from the staging pallet.
  • Ensure belts are available for replacement by hanging new belts in appropriate locations on machine.
  • Initiate replacement to drive belt or two-hour cook-on belt by communicating with maintenance department.
  • Replace belt by using allen wrench to loosen collar and remove idler pulleys.
  • Check for bad folds by marking cartons and running them through the line and inspecting the finished sample.
  • Obtain replacement belts from supply room by completing sign out sheet.
  • Prepare the SBR samples by cutting them with paper cutter according to the diagram provided in the lab.
  • Provide information for boxes and dividers by removing identification ticket and providing to feeder or packer operator.
  • Relieves feeder, inspector, or packer operator on 12 hours shift by operating the feed machine.
  • Understand and comply with all Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements.
  • Comply with facility safety requirements including wearing the required PPE and following all of the safety rules and procedures.

  • Motivation to train two jobs up.
  • Manufacturing experience and familiarity working with machines
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience using tools
  • Sound judgment and decision making
  • Basic math and computer skills required
  • Excellent attendance and demonstrated commitment to excellent job performance
  • Ability to detect colors and shades
  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions
  • Demonstrates teamwork and cooperation in accomplishing all tasks
  • Willingness to work weekends and different shifts as needed
