The Principal Engineer role combines the technical skills of an engineer with the organizational and motivation skills of a leader to provide technical direction to a team of administrators and engineers. The Principal Engineer will understand the technical aspects of their domain, connect projects to business initiative, and drive their team forward to contribute to the success of the company.WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Contributing to the creation and implementation of engineering vision, strategy, policies, and procedures to improve the performance of operations.
  • Ensuring compliance to our policies and procedures by creating auditing strategies and schedules.
  • Assisting with the execution of projects by combining industry best practices, business requirements and knowledge of the team's skillset into actionable solutions.
  • Serving as a conduit for feedback and direction between engineers, leadership, project managers and other stakeholders to remove roadblocks and keep projects on target.
  • Using techniques such as mathematical modelling to work out whether proposed solutions would achieve the desired results and be cost/time effective.
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and ensure that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them
  • Sharing expertise and insights with other engineers through both mentorship and creation of governance standards.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Required:
  • 10+ years of experience in an infrastructure engineering role
  • Bachelor's Degree in science, engineering, or management, or equivalent experience.
  • Enterprise network design experience
  • Expert knowledge of Cisco and other industry best practices for network design
  • Expert understanding of both Cisco proprietary and open standard network protocols/models
  • Experience implementing the above protocols/models in an enterprise network
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving environment
  • Ability to multitask and adapt
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Experience mentoring other team members
  • Availability after-hours to provide support when necessary

Preferred:
  • CCNP, CCDP, or CCIE or equivalent experience
  • ITIL Certification and/or Project Management experience a plus
  • Hands on experience with Cisco ACI (SDN) and/or Cloud Networking (AWS, Azure, etc)
  • Hands on experience with Enterprise Network technologies including: Wireless LAN controllers, Cisco DNA Center, Cisco ISE, and network monitoring tools (e.g. Solarwinds Orion, Scrutinizer or other NetFlow monitoring application)
