Operate, inspect, and maintain boilers, chillers, and other equipment and systems within the Central Energy Plant to provide heating and cooling needs to campus buildings.

Please note: This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyoming’s Employee Handbook. Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate multi-fuel, high pressure, high temperature boilers, liquid centrifugal chiller units, and other equipment in the Central Energy Plant.

  • Monitor gauges and equipment; make adjustments or take corrective action as necessary.

  • Train Plant Operators in the operation and maintenance of boilers and chillers under normal and emergency conditions.

  • Conduct required water and pollution control tests to maintain plant, equipment, and state standards.

  • Operate and test backup electrical generation systems.

  • Record data noting problems with equipment or system conditions; take necessary corrective action.

  • Monitor and record coal shipment for quality control.

  • Confer with other Operators regarding current operation information and problems.

  • Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance and repairs.

  • Restore plant functions to normal following shut downs or power failures.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Receive and relay information to proper personnel on after hour calls.

  • Conduct tours of the facility.

  • Maintain designated area in clean and safe operating condition.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: 2 years work-related experience in an industrial mechanical setting, preferably in the steam or chilled water fields

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to be a productive team member.

  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of appropriate vocational schooling, or two years of boiler operator experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.REQUIRED MATERIALS:
