Part Time Machinist

We are looking for an experienced manual machinist to join our operations team on a part-time basis. This position is a perfect opportunity for a skilled machinist to contribute to a local high tech manufacturing company in a collaborative, low stress environment. Schedule is flexible and open for discussion based on your availability.

The Role

- Operate machine shop equipment to produce high quality precision metal and plastic parts to specification

- Operate machine tools: conventional lathe, milling machine, band saw, drill press and grinders, etc.

- Create prototype machined parts, working collaboratively with design engineers

- Correct machined parts from outside suppliers that are not to print, as needed

- Modify R&D parts as needed or when drawings are revised

- Suggest design improvements to reduce cost, and improve part quality

- Repair parts that have been damaged in-house

- Build custom tools and fixtures

- Maintain machine shop, compressed air system, and help with other special projects

- Assist with facilities and supplier relationships as needed

The Candidate

Successful candidates will have:

- At least 5 years of machining experience on manual machining tools including mill and lathe.

- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and make recommendations on material sourcing, design revisions, as well as reasonably accurate time and cost estimates.

- Proficient using inspection tooling such as micrometers, calipers, gages, etc.

- Strong attention to detail and passion for producing high quality work.

- Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- Flexibility and desire to take input from different departments on projects, and transform input into a finished product.
