job summary:This is a direct FTE role for a Database Archictect with a client of ours in Cary. Candidates must have experience with database architecture including experience with postgreSQL and NOSQL.In this role, you will focus on driving innovation, adopting the latest tools and techniques in database product development and administration while contributing to our rapid growth in a fast-paced e-commerce industry. You will have played a key role embedding DB development into Agile processes and are committed to collaboration, peer reviews, knowledge-sharing, tuning and optimizing (even within Sprints). You have led refactoring large, monolithic-style application databases into smaller, scalable microservices designed around lines of business and company needs. You recognize use cases where object databases are superior to relational databases and have led corresponding refactoring, ETL, and subsequent new DBA needs. You will manage procurement of hardware, software, licenses, subscriptions, assets, inventory, etc. You will define and lead adherence to best practices in security, governance, database development and administration. You will advocate for adoption of DevOps, CI/CD, containerization, automation, etc. We are looking for a motivated, energetic, team player to join our growing product development team! This is a fantastic opportunity to help us scale, optimize, and troubleshoot our multi-tenant relational database, while identifying best use cases for object databases. The goal is to better position us for rapid product development and deployment. We all share accountability and responsibility for delivering our flagship an e-commerce solution for dental practices to operate efficiently. The DB Architect is a strategic part of our product development team and scalability initiatives. Responsibilities ? A strong focus on business outcomes and a passion for having technology meet business needs effectively and efficiently. ? Managing development updates to all data models, including tables, fields, triggers, stored procedures, etc. This requires regular coordination with development staff. ? Serve as our go-to subject matter expert on all things database-related, including management, maintenance, scaling, and architecture. ? PostgresSQL database administration (DBA). ? Data Modeling software (PowerDesigner, Erwin, etc.). ? Experience in NOSQL (Mongo, Couch DB, Cassandra); recognizing superior use cases; and coordinating efforts to refactor. ? Experience in OLAP DB. ? Ability to succeed in delivering quality software/services in a dynamic environment ? Collaborate with our product development team on database design, query optimization, and large scale design and deploymentComfortable with frequent, incremental code testing and deployment ? Ensure systems and people are adhering to process and identify where this is not happening ? Work with our DevOps group to ensure database availability and security with minimum down time, including providing after-hours and on-call database support in a 24/7 system environment ? Document current policies and procedures related to our database architecture and maintenance and implement new procedures for improvement ? Willingness to jump in and take on new tasks to support the team ? Bring a passion for learning and staying current with emerging trends and technologies ? Thrive on solving complex development problems and architecting creative solutions Communicative and effective across functional borders. ? Collaborates with team members located in various locations; supports daily operations of a 24x7 work environment. ? Proficiency with Windows OS, RedHat Linux, Mac OS, IIS, and Active Directory Requirements ? 10+ years architecting and maintaining complex relational databases (specifically Postgres) for web applications. ? Demonstrated experience with database installation, upgrading, migrating, patching, disaster recovery, high availability, monitoring, assessing, and providing resolution ? Well versed in source control and automated deployments. ? Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for a highly collaborative product development process; excel in team building and fostering the team's success in delivering against schedule and budget ? A passion for technology, continuous learning, and coaching and mentoring technical talent ?
