Skilled Gardener/Horticulturist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Artful Garden, a woman-owned design, installation and maintenance company located in Seattle, is seeking an experienced horticulturist/gardener to join our team. The ideal candidate will be interested in a longer-term roll with increasing responsibilities. This is the perfect opportunity for someone with horticulture experience to work in gardens with very diverse and interesting plantings. The position will require hands-on gardening with the potential to develop into taking on specialized tasks/responsibilities in gardens. The position is based in a home office near Columbia City; clients are located throughout the greater Seattle area and Eastside. Come grow with us!

REQUIRED:

- Minimum of 1-2 years industry experience working as a gardener/estate gardener, at retail nursery or equivalent.

- A qualified candidate must come prepared with a base horticultural knowledge and familiarity with perennials, annuals, woody plants, bulbs in terms of their identification, cultural conditions, growing/flowering seasons, etc.

- Must posses a base knowledge of pruning techniques, planting, as well as knowledge and familiarity with basic gardening tools.

- General knowledge of soils, pests, and plant diseases.

- Must work well independently and as a team member.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including basic smart phone and computer skills.

- Ability to follow directions, keep on top of tasks and to see a task through to completion.

- Able to maintain a positive attitude while working at a fast-pace.

- Willing to work outside in all seasons and weather conditions.

- Energetic and healthy; able to lift at least 50 pounds.

- Reliable transportation.

PREFERRED:

- Experience working as part of team.

- Excellent organization and time management skills.

- Experience with Google Suite (Sheets, Forms, Etc).

- Familiarity with greater Seattle area.

- Ability to drive a manual transmission. Will need to learn if not skilled.
