Job Description

Position Title

Crisis Intervention Advocate (Sexual Assault)

Position Summary

Provides direct services to primary and secondary survivors of sexual violence by offering support and advocacy through each stage of the healing process. Will work to educate and engage the community in an effort to further prevent sexual violence.

Duties And Responsibilities:

Direct Services

1. Respond to crisis calls within established policies and procedures.

2. Ensure proper coverage for the sexual assault crisis line.

3. Provide support for survivors via deep and reflective listening.

4. Support and accompany victims to forensic exams and/or law enforcement interviews

5. Advocate for victims and survivors with public agencies or forums (i.e.: law enforcement, medical/social/legal systems, legislative efforts, etc.).

6. Facilitate support groups.

7. Assistance in filing reparations claims and other related documents.

8. Provide referrals as necessary to other service providers.

Community Outreach and Education

1. Present to schools, service providers, and/or community members on topics related to sexual violence.

2. Develop and implement awareness campaigns.

Programming

1. Periodically evaluate, update, and expand sexual assault education and support group curricula.

2. Document, track, and report statistical information in a timely manner.

Systems Change/Partnering

1. Collaborate with area law enforcement, medical professionals, city and county attorneys, and other community agencies to increase victim-centeredness.

2. Serve on community boards and committees as required.

Administrative/Other Office Duties

1. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

1. Knowledge of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and homelessness.

2. Demonstrate ability to work with diverse populations (ie: elderly, ethnicity, gay/lesbian, differently abled, etc.).

3. Ability to work independently and as a team member.

4. Ability to support goals described in the mission, vision statements & strategic planning of The Avenue Family Network, Inc. (The Avenue).

5. Knowledge of local resources, agencies, and services.

6. Demonstrate clear written and oral communication skills.

7. Ability to work in a crisis oriented organization.

8. Ability to prioritize.

9. Understanding of confidentiality practices.

10. Willingness to provide emergency response services at local hospitals and law enforcement agencies.

Minimum Education and Experience:

1. Minimum of one year college enrolled in Human Services field of study

2. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

3. Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment with both internal and external partners.

4. Experience utilizing Microsoft Office and web based programs.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1. Valid Driver’s License, a working motor vehicle, and proof of current vehicle insurance.

2. Undergo and successfully pass a State of Michigan LIEN Check and Central Registry Clearance.

3. Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Screen.

4. Negative TB Test upon hire with follow-up TB tests as required by The Avenue policy.

5. Undergo a background check with no recent felony convictions and no abuse/neglect convictions.

6. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings, weekends and holidays, as necessary.

There is one2nd shift positionworking 5:00 pm - 12:30 am and two positions on 3rd shift working 12:30 am - 8:30 am. There is also one position that will rotate between 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Hourly wage is $12.00. There is additional premium pay during the pandemic
