Our client is seeking a mid to senior level

Design Engineer with a background in designing industrial sized machinery ideally for the food processing industry. This is a direct hire opening in Ramsey, MN.
  • Creating designs, specifications and blueprints along with a team of other engineers and drafters.
  • Coordinating efforts with production to ensure that the design meets manufacturability capabilities including tolerance stack up and surface finish.
  • Building a prototype if needed, for testing and approval.
  • Customer site visits, if needed on projects that require onsite installation.
  • Customer visits to better understand the requirements, for complex and large systems.
  • Making modifications to existing designs or products, to improve their performance or to integrate new technology.
  • Engineering calculations to size components in order to meet performance requirements such as speed, torque, flow rate, stress, fatigue, pressure, vacuum, and other parameters.
  • Ensuring that the intended product or structure will be safe, dependable, cost effective and meet regulatory requirements
  • Creates solid models or update models provided by customer.
  • Ability to use ERP system (Made to Manage) to create accurate job bills of materials and routings for purposes of creating quotes, sales orders, and jobs.
  • Works closely with the Project Manager to develop production plan entered into Made to Manage, purchase necessary articles / buy outs, oversee assembly of products.
  • Reviews customer models and drawings for missing or incorrect information required in producing the customer's part through to completion.
  • Keeps up-to-date with all research and development as appropriate with changes in manufacturing technology including fabrication, welding, laser, finishing, assembly.
  • Identifies job flow problems, root causes, and recommends corrective action to ensure timely and efficient production effort. Reviews jobs and drawings with the Project Manager and makes and records changes as needed post-job.
  • Assists the Project manager to identify workload and anticipate workload problems; maintains a continual awareness of potential "bottlenecks" or "droughts" that could negatively impact the achievement of "on-schedule" completion of in-process operations; recommends and/or implements "short-term" solutions in order to ensure timeliness and responsible leveling of the work load.
  • Works with production supervisors for Laser, Fabrication, and Machining and shop personnel to maintain/improve productivity through effective communication/coordination and movement of parts and material.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS degree in Engineering in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Machine Design or related field with 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • Solid experience with product design and manufacturing, especially Design For Manufacturability.
  • 3D CAD required (preferably Solid Works).
  • ASME, FEA calculations preferred.
  • Experience with FMEA, DVP&R, Quality Control, Site-Installation a plus.
  • Project development and leadership skills are essential.
  • Experience with customer interaction and working under time constraints a definite plus.
  • Experience with software/controls engineering and system design principles a plus.
