Sierra Nevada University is looking to hire a Staff Accountant:

Position Summary: This individual will be responsible for assisting with the process of closing the university’s financial statements every month, and assisting with the preparation of the financial statements and notes for the annual audit. This will include the monthly preparation and review of specific entries into the General Ledger. The individual will also assist with other regulatory reporting as applicable, and should possess solid communication, technology, organizational, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities:

Prepare monthly journal entries (e.g., allocation of shared expenses across departments, recognition of prepaid expenses, booking interest income and gains/losses, etc.)

Prepare journal entries for all cash receipts throughout the year

Create and send monthly budget status reports to all departments in the University

Review the accuracy of Accounts Payable invoices

Monitor daily operating cash in the bank

Assist with entry of the annual budget into internal systems

Assist with external audit schedules in preparation for the annual financial statement audit and year-end close

Assist with regulatory reporting as needed (e.g., filing of Form 990, annual reporting to the NWCCU)

Perform weekly internal payroll audit

Other Responsibilities:

o Assist with the management of accounting department record storage

o Assist with the coordination with the Development department to ensure the accuracy of donations and posting to the General Ledger

o Assist with the performance of the annual fixed asset audit

o Assist employees with questions on their departmental budgets as needed

o Back up Payroll team as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

o Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field

o Proficiency in the Windows environment, including Excel

o Experience with Banner a plus

o Proven account reconciliation and analysis skills

o Ability to communicate financial concepts to non-financial colleagues

o Detail-oriented with good organizational and interpersonal skills

o Experience with payroll a plus

Reports To: Controller

Hours: Salaried, 4 days/week

Compensation: $45,000-$55,000 for a 4-day work week (equivalent to $56,250-$68,750 for a 5-day workweek), plus benefits

Other: Fingerprint and background check required as a condition of employment
