Ornamental Fabricator

Job Description:

We are an established, family-owned, ornamental iron company looking for a dependable craftsman. We have been serving Albuquerque and the surrounding areas for over 50 years. Qualifications:

MIG Welder preferred

Must have general shop experience 

Must be able to measure to the 1/16”

Must be able to use a grinder correctly, we deal with thin metal.

Must be open to reporting and feedback

Required Skills:

· Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.

· Ability to read AutoCAD drawings

· Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies.

· Cuts workpiece, using powered saws, hand shears, or clipping knife.

· Melts lead bar, wire, or scrap to add lead to joint or to extrude melted scrap into reusable form.

· Repairs equipment, such as Security Storm Door, Security Screen Door, Pre-hung Screen Door, Patio Door Gate, Window Grill, Fire Release, Gate.

· Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.

· Removes rough spots from workpiece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.

· Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.

· Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.

· Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.

This position will be a flex position. In addition to the above duties, upon hire, this person will also act as support to our install team, which may involve assisting with installations, staging, and loading jobs, preparing screens and glass as well as perform duties to assist our main fabricators, including cutting steel, fabricating brackets and other assemblies as needed.

Additional requirements:

· Clean driving record with current, valid NM driver’s license, and able to meet company insurance requirements

· Mechanically inclined with a demonstrated ability to understand and work with common power tools

· Excellent communication skills (in English)– in person, telephone and written skills

· Positive attitude

· Safety minded

· Punctual

· Able to troubleshoot problems

· Ability to work with minimal supervision

· Ability to use digital calendars and time clocks from your mobile phone

· Respectful, good demeanor, professional, organized, accountability is a must

· Must pass a background and drug screening

· Must be neat and clean in appearance, professional

· Follow both written and verbal direction

· Practical skills for using hand and power tools, Drill/Impact Drill, Hammer Drill, Reciprocating Saw, Jack Hammer

· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for a distance of up to 10 feet
