Overview

The Mental Health Outreach Specialist provides outreach, emotional support and public education to individuals, families, and groups adversely affected by the pandemic as well as providing referrals to needed resources such as mental health and other services. Contributes to, promotes, and facilitates the implementation of mental health prevention and promotion activities including suicide prevention.

Responsibilities

The Mental Health Outreach Specialist assists in locating individuals adversely impacted by the pandemic. Provides outreach counseling to youth, adults and families.

Utilizes provided training and identified strategies to educate and support youth, adults, families and/ local community affected by the current pandemic, facilitating referrals to mental health and other supports when needed.

Provides education to impacted individuals and communities on topics such as typical reactions to highly stressful situations, social isolation, and trauma for example and promotes the development of positive coping strategies. Supports suicide postvention efforts.

Qualifications

Strong demonstrated ability to interact positively with a wide range of communities including those historically underserved. Education and experience providing behavioral health and/or social supports to vulnerable populations. Related bachelors or master’s level education a plus but not required.

Candidates must be able to use e-mail, compose documents, save and locate documents electronically, and learn to use our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Proficiency in Word and other MS Office applications preferred.

Must pass state-required background and DMV checks; possess a valid OR driver's license and a satisfactory driving record to transport clients. Candidate must be able to work independently and flexibly, under general supervision.
