Responsibilities(U) Description
  • (U) Gather open source data on media trends for individual tasked countries, including, but not limited to, television, radio, and digital formats.
  • (U) Quantify consumer use to identify the main sources of news, relative rates of accessibility, and relative rates of use.
  • (U) Identify limitations to data such as media consolidation, centralized government control, or outright bans on a type of media.
  • (U) Obtain private-sector or foreign-government market research on media.
  • (U) Obtain demographic data to baseline media consumption.
  • (U) Synthesize data to produce media landscapes with rankings of top media channels, individuals, and mediums.
  • (U) Contextualize reports with local influences (media laws, language barriers, infrastructure limitations)
  • (U) Augment, as necessary, the Media Landscape Research with additional foreign language support.

Qualifications(U) Required Qualifications
  • (U) Two (2) years' work experience demonstrating technical expertise applicable to conducting open source research on media trends and consumer media use in global markets.
  • (U) Two (2) years' work experience demonstrating technical expertise applicable to collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data on media trends and consumer media use in global markets.
  • (U) Two (2) years' work experience demonstrating Level 2 proficiency the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) scale with widely-spoken or specialized foreign language expertise; preferred language mix includes Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Chinese, Persian/Farsi, Russian, Bhasa, German, Japanese, Italian, Berber, Turkish, Indonesian, Thai, and Korean.
  • (U) Knowledge and ability to understand intelligence gathering and analysis missions over three (3) project life cycles.
  • (U) Ability to develop knowledge of legal and policy issues, such as Executive Order (EO) 12333 and sensitive intelligence operations, the Congressional oversight process, and the regulations and procedures for handling defectors.
  • (U) Ability to apply knowledge of policies, regulations, technical tools, and databases to support operations.
  • (U) Ability to understand operations as they pertain to the agent acquisition cycle, intelligence collection, and asset validation.
  • (U) Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • (U) Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • (U) Knowledge and experience in research techniques.
  • (U) Ability to analyze data and research results.
(U) Desired Qualifications
  • (U) Five (5) years' work experience demonstrating technical expertise applicable to conducting open source research on media trends and consumer media use in global markets.
  • (U) Five (5) years' work experience demonstrating technical expertise applicable to collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data on media trends and consumer media use in global markets.
  • (U) Five (5) years' work experience demonstrating Level 2 proficiency on the ILR scale with widely-spoken or specialized foreign language expertise; preferred language mix includes Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Chinese, Persian/Farsi, Russian, Bhasa, German, Japanese, Italian, Berber, Turkish, Indonesian, Thai, and Korean. (U) Possess an advanced degree relevant to media landscape research, such as, Journalism, Marketing, or International Relations.

Requires 5 to 8 years with BS/BA or 3 to 5 years with MS/MA or 0 to 2 years with PhD.
