GENERAL SUMMARY
Performs clerical duties related to motor vehicle registration and titling and performs work as required. An employee in this class is deputized to make clerical actions effective. The position is located in the Ada County Assessor’s Office, Motor Vehicle Division. Incumbent may be required to work between Motor Vehicle satellite offices.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
A Motor Vehicle Clerk I performs key clerical functions that are recurring in nature, narrow in scope, and performed under general supervision. The work requires working knowledge of registration and titling laws.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensures that all applications for registration and titles are correct and completed according to the requirements set forth by Ada County, Idaho Transportation Department and Idaho State Tax Commission policy;
Determines and collects sales tax;
Provides applicants with proper forms, assists customers on how to complete routine forms, and witness’s applicant’s signatures;
Verifies serial numbers on out-of-state vehicles;
Requests supporting documentation from applicants and reviews for authenticity;
Operates cash register and collects money from registrations.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Composes letters and addresses envelopes;
Assists dealers in completing clerical work for titles;
Acts as a receptionist directing customers to the proper person or office and answers telephone;
Maintains inventory control and shipping/receiving of supplies and reports;
Performs related functions as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent;
Knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment;
Knowledge of business arithmetic;
Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation;
Skill in the operation of a personal computer;
Skill typing from clear copy or rough draft at a high rate of words per minute with a high degree of accuracy;
Ability to handle money and credit and debit cards accurately;
Ability to assist the public in a helpful and professional manner;
Ability to achieve and maintain office standards of acceptable transaction times;
Ability to work as part of a team to accomplish division and department goals;
Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent may be subject to a criminal records check and Pre-employment drug testing;
Must adhere to a professional code of ethics as a sworn Deputy Assessor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed primarily in an office environment although employees are occasionally required to go outside to verify vehicle serial numbers, retrieve paper files and move light reference materials, files, papers or license plates;
May be required to lift up to 20 lbs;
Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, to permit the employee to function in a general office environment and accomplish tasks.
