FLEET MECHANIC / TRANSPORTATION DISPATCHER POSITION, no nights/weekend

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)

1. Ensures the regular and necessary maintenance and safe implementation of all District vehicles by:

a. Performing monthly inspection on all vehicles.

b. Performing troubleshooting and repairs on district vehicles.

c. Directing and/or overseeing the work efforts of other mechanics engaged in the maintenance, repair, and/or

modification of District vehicles.

d. Conducting engine testing using specialized equipment, as necessary.

e. Performing periodic road-testing to determine road-worthiness.

f. Preparing and auditing the preventative maintenance program for District Transportation

Services. Maintaining related records and reports on vehicles and maintenance operations.

g. Analyzing requirements and making recommendations on schedule for preventative maintenance program for District vehicles and equipment.

2. Participates in professional development opportunities and remains current on career-related subject matter by:

a. Maintaining the ability to diagnose, repair, rebuild, make all necessary adjustments on all vehicle systems.

b. Maintaining a thorough knowledge and ability to repair components on all system, including the ability to

operate shop equipment.

c. Attending training and seminars, related to fleet maintenance, vehicle mechanics, or related topics, as needed.

d. Providing on-the-job training for mechanic trades personnel and bus drivers as needed.

3. Coordinates work assignments and duties with the Transportation Coordinator, including but not limited to:

a. Inventory management and control; and sets up and monitors receipt and issuance of parts and supplies.

b. Assigns equipment for all field trips/athletic trips.

c. Evaluating the need for equipment and material replacement, upgrade, or equipment rotation use. Makes

recommendations to the Transportation Coordinator.

d. Ensuring compliance with VOSHA/OSHA standards and District protocols for safety.

e. Oversees the work of the Assistant Mechanic and/or other mechanics.

4. May serve as a Bus Driver, as assigned.

5. May perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws at the direction of the Transportation Coordinator and Superintendent. May assist the Transportation Coordinator in supervisory responsibilities such as: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. The ability to work in a collaborative team environment is essential to the employee's successful job performance.

Transportation Dispatcher duties include:

Performs a variety of work in developing and maintaining computerized bus routes and schedules. Assists with the Dispatch responsibilities of the Department. Duties are normally routine in nature and follow well defined practices and procedures. However, judgment and discretion are required to deal with emergency and/or unanticipated situations. Work is completed independently with direction, should unusual or complex situations

arise. Work contacts extend beyond peers to parent, students and the general public and require well developed

communication skills.
