Pacific Whale Foundation (dba PacWhale Eco-Adventures) has an immediate opening for an experienced Maintenance Engineer. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for overseeing and performing ongoing maintenance on our EcoTour fleet of vessels and related equipment. The Maintenance Engineer works to ensure that all vessels are ready for operation, minimizing unanticipated down time. This position will also perform work during dry docks – both locally and on other islands.
Our ideal candidate is a team player with the ability to troubleshoot, accurately diagnose and repair all types of marine engines, and has experience instructing/overseeing the work of others. Excellent communication skills are a must. Knowledge of USCG policies and maritime regulations for Subchapter T certified passenger vessels and a passion for protecting our marine environment will set you apart!
This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position based out of our maintenance shop in Waikapu (Maui) and working on our vessels at Ma'alaea and Lahaina Harbors. We offer competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package. Come join our team!
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience working on diesel and gasoline marine engines
Experience working on vessel electrical and plumbing systems
Valid drivers' license (any state) and clean driving abstract
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, service desk systems)
Strong communicator who is great at collaboration
Excellent time management and decision-making skills; able to thrive in a fast-paced environment working under tight timelines
Able to work unsupervised in extreme environmental conditions (heat, humidity, rain, wind, etc.)
Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and bend, climb, crawl, squat, reach in and out of spaces aboard vessels
Knowledge of USCG policies and maritime regulations for Subchapter T certified passenger vessels (preferred)
