Job Description SummaryThe Medical Assistant functions as a team player in the front desk department. Performs the various duties of the Medical Assistant while rotating between offices and daily duty assignments. Required to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in order to maintain sound public and coworker relations.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Performs opening and closing tasks. Prepares office and paperwork for patients/physicians. Takes back patients and assists with check in and check out. Utilizes EMR systems, documents required information including H and P entry, updates patient information and pharmacies, sends prescription refill requests, sends notifications for new pharmacies and physicians, and manages charts. Maintains clean and orderly appearance in exam rooms, work stations, and reception area. Ensures HIPAA compliance. Assists physicians with procedures/exams. Identifies special interest patients (IE: Barrx, Research, Crohn's). Completes requisitions and forms based on physician's orders. Schedules procedures and appointments. If required, boards procedures at facility. Collects payments. Balances and runs daily billing reports. Manages and enters recall information and sends appropriate recall/normal biopsy letters. Obtains required authorizations per current protocol (IE: insurance prior auths). Utilizes access to hospital records to obtain results for physicians and ensure reports are in electronic health records. Monitors sample requests, disbursement, documentation, and follows up on messages/pick up.Enters prescriptions and sends for sign off Acts as office liaison for pharmaceutical representatives. Interacts with other departments to ensure team work, improve work flow, and develop better patient customer service. Maintains inventory of office and medical supplies, literature, and forms. Manages and redirects calls through multi-line phone system. Monitors evening message line. Communicates messages to/from physicians and physician assistants. Prepares paperwork, equipment, and patient for capsule endoscopy appointments. Manages patient information pick-up and delivery. Distributes documents to correct departments. Faxes medical record requests, reports from Gmed and USC, and disperses received faxes. Collects Una mail, opens, and distributes appropriately. Follows directions/guidance from Lead Medical Receptionist and Office Manager

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education One year medical office experience preferred. Basic understanding of medical terminology. Medical office administration, medical terminology, or medical transcription experience and/or training preferred but not required. Medical Assistant training with certificate of completion preferred, will consider experience/on-the-job training. Minimum 35 words/minute keyboarding Proficient time management, prioritization, judgment, decision making and organizational skills. Able to work under the handle the pressures of multiple physicians and fast paced office setting. Able to work effectively in a team environment.

Licensing/Certifications

Valid Operator's License from the State of Michigan. Certification in CPR and First Aid preferred but not required. Certification in Medical Assistant preferred but not required

In accordance with HIPAA, this position must maintain the confidentiality of the patient in all circumstances as well as company confidentiality. Ensures the confidentiality of data collected and stored is maintained.
