Green Valley Recreation Inc. (GVR), who are we?

GVR is a membership-based 501(c)(4) non-profit that provides a wide variety of recreation, social, and leisure opportunities to approximately 80% of households in the Green Valley, AZ area. While GVR is not age-restricted, most members are over the age of 55. GVR owns and operates fourteen recreation centers including an award-winning, 24-court pickleball center.

GVR’s mission is to provide recreational, social, and leisure education opportunities that enhance the quality of our members’ lives.

Green Valley is approximately 25 minutes south of Tucson on I-19. The community is comprised of 120+ distinct Home Owner’s Associations, with housing available to fit every budget. Most HOA’s are age-restricted, requiring at least one owner to be age 55 or older, and prohibiting permanent residence of children. Family-friendly and fast-growing Sahuarita adjoins the Green Valley area on the north.

The Communications Assistant supports all communications activities in a fast-paced, high expectations environment, on a small team responsible for effectively communicating all facets of Green Valley Recreation, Inc. (GVR) to the membership and the community-at-large, primarily through digital and print media outlets.

Essential Job Functions

Support the Communications Manager as needed in all areas of internal and external communications, including website (WordPress) content management, drafting copy, coordinating publishing tasks, proofing digital and print copy, assembling presentation materials, documenting events, etc.

In support of various departments, design brand-consistent print-ready and digital materials including posters, flyers, brochures, reports, house ads, catalog covers, social media posts, SWAG, etc.

Design various templates and forms for use by members who have minimal digital skills

Collect, assemble, and proof content from various departments for the weekly e-blast using Mail Chimp, send to Communications Manager for final proof and approval; publish as directed by Communications Manager

Assist to compile and maintain a library of elements useful to the production of print and digital communications pieces, including graphics, infographics, photos, video footage, boilerplate

Review and approve temporary flyers, posters, and digital announcements designed by various departments, ensuring brand and voice consistency, as directed

Write copy for print and digital media, as assigned

With the Communications Manager, collaborate with other departments to design and maintain functional in-center information distribution mechanisms

Ensure consistent use of GVR’s brand elements

Assist in the development, maintenance, and execution of a social media calendar with a focus on

Facebook and Nextdoor

Manage communications campaigns, as assigned

Ancillary Job Functions

Assist in event planning as needed

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)

Associates degree in Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field.

Minimum three (3) years of relevant work experience in lieu of education.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite software required.

Experience with Graphic Design preferred.

Experience with brand development preferred.

Must maintain a valid, current driver’s license.

Must maintain current CPR AED certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

Ability to speak, write, and understand the English language well.

Experience with managing social media channels.

Ability to cooperate and work well with fellow staff.

Demonstrated initiative, motivation, and self-discipline.

Familiarity with brand and corporate culture principles

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

General office conditions.

Some work occurs at recreation centers, both indoors and outdoors, in all seasons

Requires clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.

May be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
