Please review the job details below.Maxar is currently seeking a courageous, innovative, multi-skilled Technical Director of pLEO Production to join our Proliferated Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Product team in Westminster, CO or Palo Alto, CA. Life with UsYour Project: In this role, you will help drive production design and implementation as part of the agile pLEO Product team responsible for developing the various elements of Maxar's affordable, large-cale, scalable LEO products. The scope of work includes both bus and payload developments, and it is anticipated that you will drive improvements in related product areas within the company as an outcome of your work. To that end, we are looking for leaders to bravely challenge conventional approaches and lay the foundation for brand new product concepts and enablers focused on cost competitive space products. Our Product team exemplifies industry leadership: we are a very small, self-contained group of enthusiastic engineers and business people, where everyone wears multiple hats, all ideas are good ideas, and no jobs are too big or too small. This is an out-of-the-box opportunity that requires out-of-the-box solutions and inspired leaders. Along with other members of this dynamic team, you will play an essential role in shaping the strategic roadmap, oversee one or more individual IR&D projects, work with and help to oversee internal and external partners, applying design-for-manufacturing/design-for-test (DFM/DFT) principles to develop specifications and manufacturing plans suitable for volume production. You will be responsible for developing creative solutions to integrate customer inputs and technical requirements with your knowledge of design and production to define systems that that we can build profitably, with an emphasis on designing enough flexibility and scalability into them that they envelope a range of customer needs without requiring substantial NRE to tailor them to each new pursuit.Your Career: We're very serious about professional development and continuing education at Maxar. Your responsibilities:

  • Identify customer needs and market gaps influencing our business and our customers.
  • Through business pipeline awareness, contribute to and lead execution of elements of a phased roadmap to have the greatest chance of capturing profitable business.
  • Seek out disruptive technologies in your area(s) of responsibility that enable Maxar to leapfrog its competition, and ensuring qualification of those technologies to make them bid-ready.
  • As directed by Product management, lead technical development of one or more innovation areas with a primary emphasis on design for low cost volume manufacturing, such as:
    • Low cost, scalable avionics, processing & software
    • Innovative mechanisms & spacecraft structures
    • Secure networking and communications architectures and technologies
    • Payload and payload interfaces
    • Transformative, low cost bus subsystem and component technologies
    • Flexible, scalable manufacturing, assembly, integration and test processes
    • Voice of Manufacturing requirements to guide product design
    • Manufacturing Execution System tailored to provide Assembly Process Documentation for volume production
    • Low-cost mechanical and electrical assembly, integration and test equipment, and production tooling
  • Support Maxar Mission Architecture and Business Development teams to shape and win individual new business pursuits to ensure compatibility with the Product portfolio.
  • Lead or support Maxar-wide initiatives as directed by upper management. You are expected and empowered to act as a change agent to drive cost-effective new development activities for pLEO

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain U.S. Government security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field. 4 years of working experience may be substituted for a Bachelors degree.
  • Minimum of 15 years related work experience. A Master's degree may account for 2 years of experience.
  • Experience working cross-functionally within a company and/or with external partners and contractors
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with volume production of complex electromechanical systems is greatly preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing an assembly/test production line, possibly including constructing or renovating a facility
  • Understanding/participation in sustaining engineering processes such as Change Approval, NPI, Breakpointing
  • Involvement in supplier development or supplier quality processes
  • Prior history as a process engineer or industrial engineer for volume aerospace products
  • Experience as a technical project lead within an engineering or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience successfully executing Research & Development (RAD) projects
  • Innovative thought leadership the leverages your cradle-to-grave product experience
  • Demonstrated experience applying sound system engineering practice and methods to maximize efficiency and velocity while ensuring team focus on successful project execution
  • Excellent communication skills along with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams
  • Experience taking products into production, including progressive design iterations to reduce delivered cost
  • Excellent cross-functional skills across customers, sales, marketing, operations, development and suppliers
  • Experience working directly with customers in the Space and Satellite Industry
  • Advanced degree in a technical field
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of organization and attention to detail
