ELM is seeking a Locate Technician to work in Sheridan, WY and the surrounding areas. As a Locate Technician, your primary responsibility will be to correctly, safely, and efficiently locate underground utilities including telecommunications, electric, gas. This will require that you manage your own daily route and schedule within certain parameters, and that you are committed to the high quality and accuracy of your work to ensure that clients and contractors can operate in complete safety, with full knowledge of the location of any underground utility lines they may encounter.
Your specific duties in this role will include:
Searching for underground utilities and accurately marking the location
Completing all necessary paperwork
Maintaining daily contact with utility managers, crews, homeowners, and contractors discussing locate issues
Receiving daily jobs via computer/device
Prioritizing your daily work by going through all locate requests to determine routing
Reading and understanding utility-provided maps to assist in identification of underground utilities
Ensuring that clients and contractors suffer no damages or injuries due to mis-located utilities
Responding to emergency calls in a timely manner
Working periodic weekend on-call rotation
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for Locate Technicians who combine a solid work ethic and the ability to self-manage with a firm commitment to safety. You must also be comfortable working in an outdoor setting, walking significant distances each day in all types of weather, and dealing with all manner of field hazards. It is also important that you have exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, and that you are able to interact with people in a friendly and professional manner.
Specific qualifications for the position include:
High School Diploma or GED
Ability to walk up to 5 miles a day in all weather conditions
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend/stoop/kneel/crawl
Valid driver’s license with a good motor vehicle record
Ability to efficiently manage your daily schedule
Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
Flexibility and temperament to adapt to sudden challenges and changing work conditions
Willingness to change schedule at short notice to respond to emergency calls
Availability for weekend on-call duty, as required
Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screens
Knowledge of underground utility construction and your assigned geographic region, preferred
Computer proficiency and the ability to use GPS/mapping systems, preferred
Prior locating or surveying experience, a plus
Experience scheduling your own work on a daily basis, a plus
Ability to read and decipher maps, a plus
Experience in delivery or route driving involving production quotas, a plus
