Job Summary
In conjunction with professional staff direction, serves as the organization’s bookkeeper and assists with general financial duties as well as providing administrative and clerical support to the professional and lay leadership of Temple Or Rishon. Communicates with temple members regarding membership and individual accounts.
Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Bookkeeping
Coordinates and manages billing and collection of accounts receivable, including one-on-one management of all congregant accounts
Coordinates and manages accounts payable
Inputs and tracks all congregant information, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll in the organization’s management and financial database
Independently troubleshoots issues with vendors regarding payment or services
Coordinates with the professional and lay leadership regarding management of special financial circumstances for congregants (including scholarships to programs, and congregant dues forgiveness)
Makes regular deposits to the organization’s financial institution(s)
Prepares checks for signature and coordinates online bill payment activity
Works closely with the organization’s Treasurer and Financial Oversight Committee regarding the finances of the organization
Makes recommendations to the professional staff regarding policies and procedures for effective financial management of the organization
Office Administration
Provide customer service to Temple Or Rishon member and visitors and supports organizational programs and activities
Receives telephone calls, letters, and visitors. Answers routine questions and provides information related to general operations, policies and procedures using discretion for matters pertaining to confidential or sensitive information. Determines when to appropriately refer inquiries, requests, or issues to professional or lay leadership. Follows up to ensure resolution as appropriate.
Maintains the organization’s management and financial database and ensures that all congregant information is up to date and accurate
Coordinates and manages all congregational mailings, including traditional mail, electronic mail, and social media
Makes recommendations to the rabbi, Director of Education, Communications, and Engagement, and the Board of Trustees regarding policies and procedures for effective operation of the organization.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred
Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience performing administrative support functions
Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping functions
Minimum 5 years of Customer Service experience
Advanced proficiency with Quickbooks
Proficiency with relational database or accounting software
Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail, accuracy, and highly organized
Ability to work independently with limited direction and oversight
Valid California Driver’s License
Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications:
Experience working in a religious or non-profit setting
Experience with Judaism and/or the willingness to learn
