Job Responsibilities:We are seeking a results-driven Application Architect to drive the enhancement and integration of our enterprise system for Application Portfolio Management and Technology Lifecycle Management. Our department's mission is to provide corporate leadership with complete line-of-sight to their IT estate, from high-level concepts such as Value Streams and Business Capabilities, down through Products and Applications, to the underlying Technologies and Versions that enable them. To this end, we have implemented our Sightline ATPM system for application and technology portfolio management.As our Application Architect, you will be expected to bring your knowledge of industry best practices in application architecture, data modeling, and system integration to bear on the future development of Sightline ATPM.This Application Architect role requires a blend of traditional technical capability and Business Analyst responsibilities. You will be consulting with senior leaders from various areas of our Information Technology division to understand what will empower them to proactively manage their portion of the IT estate. You will be working with the other members of the Sightline ATPM Product Team to assess, prioritize, and design for these needs, under the guidance of senior leadership in our Architecture & Platforms group.Because the aggregation of data from partner systems is so integral to providing our leadership with a comprehensive view of the IT estate, a deep capacity for data modeling is essential to success.

The individual who will be successful in this role will be the one who brings all of the following attributes:

  • Understanding of business architecture concepts and their relationship to applications and technologies
  • Ability to drive results from various partner groups across IT without direct authority
  • Ability to compose THOROUGH and COMPLETE application and data requirements that adhere to architectural principles
A top-notch application architect will be someone whose expertise in application architecture translates into optimized business operations.This position will be filled on a contract-to-hire basis; the position will be contracted through 2021, with the expectation that a successful candidate will be hired permanently at year-end.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to define business-specific application needs.
  • Assess and prioritize competing business needs from multiple areas.
  • Synthesize new needs with the tool's existing capabilities to define specifications that fit within the system's operational paradigms.
  • Organize the development of features, enhancements, bug fixes, and data loads into timed sprints.
  • Create and maintain architecture diagrams and documentation that accurately describe the Sightline system and its integration with partner systems.
  • Maintain master lists of system classes, fields and attributes.
  • Create spreadsheet templates that facilitate the import of large bodies of data, and assist partner areas with their use.
  • Assist with the creation of relationships between applications, technologies, capabilities, features, and other logical and physical IT entities.
  • Apply standards across different application functions.
  • Serve as a primary liaison to the Sightline vendor development team for communicating requirements.
  • Provide testing and quality assurance for select features as they are implemented.
  • Approve the promotion of features from our Quality Assurance (QA) to Production environment.
  • Documenting application development processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Contributing to our department's vision for the value Sightline will deliver.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or other related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 years of experience in multiple areas of IT, and 3 years of experience as an Application Architect.
  • Advanced to expert-level knowledge and understanding of architecture, application systems design and integration.
  • Understanding of, and ability to drive, Agile development cycles for an enterprise application.
  • Familiarity with Jira issue tracking and Agile development management software.
  • Understanding of the use of Application Program Interfaces (APIs) for data retrieval and insertion.
  • Ability to define point-to-point and hub-and-spoke data transfer mechanisms, with a principled understanding of when each is appropriate.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in relational database design and data modeling.
  • Understanding of Data Lakes, the layers within them, and the purpose and intent of each.
  • High proficiency in the use of Structured Query Language (SQL) in relational databases.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel, including advanced techniques such as pivot tables, pivot charts, lookups, and data validation.
  • Understanding of enterprise-wide Application Rationalization, and the ability to initiate, drive, and report on an Application Rationalization effort.
