JOB SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES The ideal candidate is someone with hands-on, current cloud data management experience in a modern, complex microservices based AWS environment implementing RDS/PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch. The Cloud Data Engineer shall work with the Solutions Architect, data team and the individual project teams to establish, implement and enforce efficient, secure and scalable data management processes and technologies. The work involves designing, documenting, and implementing solutions for the project’s enterprise scale cloud-based solutions. They will be part of a dynamic team that works closely with the client and will need to remain flexible as requirements can shift. The client atmosphere is congenial and welcomes ideas that can improve productivity.

Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure unintentional components of legacy designs aren’t baked in anywhere in modern applications’ data model
  • Document and implement data management tools and processes to support sound and repeatable data management.
  • Create scripts that will run across multiple cloud environments to support checking data and doing spot checking for accuracy and completeness
  • Work with the testing team to identity and manage data for testing efforts
  • Work with security engineers to identify sensitive data and the techniques to manage it securely and efficiently
  • Integrate data management processes into automated CI/CD pipelines so that data quality and completeness checks are done as part of the pipeline
  • Maintain source repositories (git) for all data related configurations
  • Meet with/mentor development teams on data related topics
  • Build a Data dictionary and validator for all related projects and applications
  • Develop, maintain and document a Data Management Plan. Communicate plan to IT leadership and present at meetings.
  • Provide ongoing Data Model updates
  • Design and implement RDS configurations by ensuring that logical and physical data models align
  • Provide ElasticSearch configuration support for NoSQL (key-value) data
  • Build and maintain Data flow diagrams

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Must be flexible, able to work in a highly collaborative environment, and work independently and collaboratively as needed. This position requires an individual who is able to take ownership of a large platform’s data architecture and drive teams toward industry standard data management processes relative to cloud environments to best leverage available tools. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are a must. Must have superior interpersonal skills and strong communication skills
  • Familiarity and experience with common DevOps tools and practices: Git, Continuous Integration and Deployment
  • Data security principles of encryption/access controls/storage
  • Good experience with ElasticSearch configuration/tuning
  • Strong PostgreSQL / AWS RDS database experience
  • Familiar with Business Analytics tools and their associated data repository requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with clients
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Previous coding experience (Java, Python)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to be onsite at Federal client site in downtown Washington DC at least 3 days a week (post-pandemic)

Required experience and Certifications
  • 8+ Years strong Data Management experience
  • 5+ Years data management experience in AWS environment
  • Experience with RDS and PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Elasticsearch
  • Git Data Modeling
  • Business Analytics tools
  • AWS Solutions Architect – Professional
  • AWS Database Specialty and/or AWS Data Analytics Specialty

EDUCATION Undergraduate Degree in Information Systems or Computer Science highly desired but can be substituted with 4 additional years of experience

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Remote position with monthly meetings onsite in Washington, DC.
  • Candidates must reside in Virginia, DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Georgia, or Texas.
