LOCATION The

Electrical Engineer position is eligible for remote work or can be based in any of our Michigan locations. The team location for this position is based in the Parnall Office in Jackson, MI.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY Located within the Gas Compression Engineering department, project engineering is responsible for the engineering deliverables for both modifications and new construction projects concerning the natural gas compression fleet.; Electrical and I&C Engineering works closely with project managers, engineers of all disciplines, plant engineers, environmental engineers, plant operations and maintenance personnel, outage managers, construction managers, architectural & engineering firms, contracted labor, and vendor representatives to ensure quality projects are completed safely, on time, and on budget. Employees in this department provide leadership, sound engineering judgement, organizational skills and clear communication to coordinate successful completion of a project.

JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBLITIES The

Electrical Engineer will work in the Compression Engineering Department and will support Consumers Energy’s natural gas compression facilities for the discipline of electrical engineering across the State of Michigan. The Electrical Engineer works in a team setting in the role of lead and/or support engineer for engineering projects within Consumers Energy. The Electrical Engineer will perform moderately complex assignments requiring application of standard techniques, theory, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. The candidate must independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering theory, techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. The Electrical Engineer will be required to work efficiently and effectively on small and large project teams. This position is primarily focused on electrical engineering, but candidate should have some knowledge of the principles of instrumentation and controls (I&C) engineering.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop and/or review engineering drawings and calculations that detail plans and specifications for construction projects.
  • Communicate effectively with a vast group of stakeholders to ensure all electrical and I&C technical aspects of the project are completed per the safety, scope, quality, schedule, and budgetary objectives.
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions to technical issues identified in the field during project execution and/or initial operation.
  • Develop and/or review electrical and I&C engineering technical specifications and bid documents for construction service contracts.
  • Perform field engineering and support the resolution of construction issues.
  • Assist project management and project controls with the development of project schedules and budgets.
  • Attend and/or lead project coordination meetings.
  • Participate in the closeout of projects including turnover of project files and record documents at project closure; captures lessons learned.
  • Collaborate directly with procurement groups, construction contractors, and vendors with scope development, material evaluations & recommendations, technical issue resolutions.

Skills / Abilities include:
  • Self-motivation, analytical, communication and interpersonal, leadership, organizational, problem solving, and troubleshooting.
  • The individual must also exhibit willingness, and the ability, to accept and adapt to changing priorities due to emergent work or outages.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program as set forth in the Engineers Council for Professional Development.
  • At least 7+ years of Electrical Engineering or Instrument Control Engineering experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience within an industrial type plant.
  • Knowledge of the design, construction, or operation of gas compressor stations.
  • Project management experience including safety, leadership, schedule logic and implementation, procurement, and construction means and methods.
  • Knowledge of industry and building codes as they relate to discipline specific design and construction.
  • Knowledge of planning and permitting as they relate to discipline specific design and construction.
  • Experience in reviewing designs to assure compliance with engineering design, applicable codes, constructability, and industry standards.
  • Experience in procurement of engineered material, equipment, and professional services.
  • Experience in coordinating and developing contract documents, specifically engineering drawings and technical specifications, for both consulting and construction services.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Experience in Lean and/or a working understanding of lean manufacturing environments.
