Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant

Position Summary: The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) provides unique therapeutic services to enhance the goals and objectives with patient care directed by the Occupational Therapist (OT). The COTA is primarily responsible for implementing the therapeutic program prescribed by the OT with special focus on Three Rivers Hospital’s swing bed program. The COTA will be responsible for implementing programs developed by the OT in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations as well as professional practice guidelines. They will collaborate with facility staff to enhance the physical, mental, and social well-being for patients.

Essential Job Duties: Assist the OT when performing tests, evaluations, and complex treatment procedures. Observe, record and report to the therapist the conditions, reactions, and responses of the patients. The COTA will maintain daily records of treatments for the OT can document progress notes on patients and enter into EMR system. Assist the therapist in consulting with family members, physicians, and other health care professionals, as appropriate. Access continuing education opportunities appropriate to discipline and responsibilities in order to maintain clinical currency. Adhere to hospital policies and procedures and participate in continued quality improvement and safety programs. Perform duties in an independent manner and recognize situations where direct supervision is needed. Consult with OT and/or nursing to choose effective activity programs. Assist in educating patients and/or family with home exercise programs and use of equipment. Promote independence in activities of daily living (including dressing and feeding) through problem solving, suggesting adaptations, and observation of the patient. Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Certification as Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of Washington with valid license. Two years’ work experience in a hospital setting and/or swing bed program is preferred. Current BLS.

Knowledge of principles, methods and equipment used in occupational therapy body mechanics. Able to understand and interpret complex written or verbal instructions. Ability to make minor decisions with minimal supervision in accordance with established procedures. Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to understand and follow the directions of the OT and the policies and procedures of the facility. Spanish bi-lingual skill is a plus.

Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm
