Mendocino Woodlands Camp Association (MWCA) is a small but growing nonprofit responsible for the preservation and operation of the facilities and mission of Mendocino Woodlands, a registered National Historic Landmark. For more than 75 years, the Woodlands has offered group and family recreation and environmental education. Its rustic cabins and lodges nestled among the redwoods are in a beautiful 700-acre setting located off the northern California coast.

The Development Director reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for all aspects of fundraising and grant writing at MWCA. This includes fund development to support the mission and programs of MWCA through grant writing, annual giving campaigns, capital campaigns, major gift campaigns, fundraising events, public relations, marketing, and government relations.

The ideal candidate will be able to take the lead in telling the story of the Woodlands in an attractive, factual, and compelling fashion to gain the attention, interest, and support of individual donors and institutions aligned with MWCA’s mission.

We are looking for an experienced professional with demonstrated success in a variety of development functions as detailed below. Due to COVID-19, this can be a remote position.

Responsibilities:

● Conduct donor outreach, both individual and foundational

● Expand donor base with an emphasis on sustained and major donors

● Prospect grant and fund development opportunities

● Prepare grant reports to fulfill funder requirements

● Produce monthly development reports to share with Board of Directors

● Work with state and local partners to support MWCA’s mission

● Connect virtually with group camps to support donor development and provide background on MWCA’s mission and history

● Maintain and build upon relationships with stakeholders and policymakers, including local and regional elected officials

● Provide marketing and outreach through email campaigns and social media posts

● Maintain donor database

● Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications:

Required Skills

● Passion for environmental stewardship, conservation, and outdoor recreation

● Experience with grant writing and fundraising

● Strong written and verbal communication skills

● Self-motivated and able to operate independently as well as in a team environment

● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive

● Passionate about MWCA’s mission to provide a Mendocino Woodlands experience for generations to come through group camping, environmental education, and historic preservation

Desired Skills

● Familiarity with Mail Chimp, Adobe Suite, donor management software, etc.

● Familiarity with Mendocino County and the role that MWCA plays in the region

Education

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
