Launch your Water Resource Civil Engineering career with this one year opportunity with the Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water).

Sonoma Water is seeking qualified candidates to fill a year-long, entry-level Water Resources Civil Engineering position in the Resource & Planning Section. This opportunity will provide the successful candidate with hands-on experience conducting and supporting important and relevant water resource and water supply planning for the region. This position will:Support hydrologic modeling of reservoir operations, streamflow routing, watershed processes, and groundwater systems

Support hydraulic modeling of Sonoma Water’s transmission system

Conduct and perform field investigations, such as stream gaging, collection of discharge measurements, and water quality sampling

Use programming software and apply statistical methods to evaluate hydrologic and environmental data

Participate in developing and managing GIS databasesThe ideal candidate will have some experience and/or knowledge in some of the following disciplines involving water resource planning:Hydrologic data compilation and analysis using programming languages (Matlab, R, Python, etc.) and GIS software (ArcGIS, etc.)

Surface water/groundwater interaction studies and water quality monitoring

California Water Rights issuesThe Resource & Planning Section performs hydrologic and watershed modeling; develops and applies complex hydrologic datasets; conducts water supply and water quality studies involving fisheries and other environmental factors; performs hydraulic modeling of Sonoma Water’s transmission system; manages Sonoma Water’s water rights program; provides flood and drainage review, and interacts with resource agencies with conditioning authority.
