$25/hr Overnight care for my 86 year old Mom with Alzheimers
Vacancy expired!
I am looking for someone to watch over my mom from 10 p.m. - 8 a.m. 3-4 nights a week. This would be in her apartment at Kahala Nui retirement community where she is still in an independent living unit.
My Mom is a cute, smart, lively 86 year old with Alzheimers. She is 5'2" tall and 100 lbs and quite agile. She can still carry a conversation and understands what's going on but she is in a sundowning stage which has her waking up often during the night, sometimes imagining things going on or just to use the bathroom.
When she wakes up she needs a kind, gentle, upbeat caregiver with her who can orient her to where she is, reassure or redirect her when she wakes up confused, and mostly accompany her to the bathroom where she sometimes can't remember how to get her pajama pants down, what to do with the toilet paper etc.
Then in the morning she needs you to give her her medication and make her some breakfast (usually coffee, and some combo of eggs, cereal, yogurt and fruit, oatmeal etc), and hang out chatting with her or reading the paper with her until her next a.m. caregiver arrives.
We use an alert mat with remote monitor so you can be outside in the living room and just go into her bedroom when the monitor signals that she has gotten out of bed. We don't mind if you sleep on the couch as long as you wake up each time the monitor goes off. We have cameras in the apartment so we will know.
Ideal candidate would be a woman at least 30 years old or older with a CNA license and/or experience working with Alzheimers who finds it easy to make conversation with most people.
You must have a car and be 100% dependable. Saying that again 100% dependable A good sense of humor is essential. We are not looking for someone to attend to my mom like a nurse, coddling her. She needs someone to be just a friend there helping. There is a distinct difference and my Mom can tell if you are there being a friend or there just treating her like patient #XYZ.
Pay is $20/hr for 10 hours a night, or $25/hr if you have your CNA license. Shift will be 10 p.m. - 8 a.m. Could become a 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. shift after Mom is comfortable with you.
You will need to get take a covid test each week to get into the building. We all get ours for free each week at CVS. Very easy. If you have gotten the vaccine you only need to show a negative test once a month.
We are looking for someone who can make at least a ONE YEAR commitment to working overnights with my Mom. If Mom likes you and you stay the entire year we will give a $1000 bonus.
No smokers. No perfume. Background check and references required.
