Our client is a top agricultural company based in California and currently hiring for fulltime GIS Mapping Engineer with the following qualifications and requirements.

Position overview:The GIS Mapping Specialist will work closely with company management using a Geographic Information System (GIS) to collect, manage, analyze, model, and present geographic and agricultural property information data in a multi-layered mapping format. In addition, a GIS specialist is expected to use the GIS as an analyst tool, design databases, connect with other technologies, and cooperate with all departments requests for information. The analysis required in this role will provide the employee with valuable information to provide recommendations for increased efficiencies, and to assist management in business decisions related to the datasets. The Mapping Specialist will develop data solutions to assist in the advancement of initiatives needed to support our agricultural business growth and operations across key segments.

Essential Functions:
  • Efficiently manage the geospatial database and develop effective, multi-layered maps and aerial photography.
  • Knowledgeable in Arc GIS/GIS Pro, SAAS and Cartography.
  • Insert various types of data into databases, including but not limited to: Texts, Various spreadsheet files, Field Infrastructure, Tree Data, Property Information, and Improvements.
  • Responsible for creating, launching, building reports, and supporting online and mobile apps (dashboards and visualizations utilizing GIS, SQL, Excel, VBA, and Power BI) to provide efficient, user-friendly access to the database for all employees
  • Maintain up to date and accurate geospatial documentation for reference purposes.
  • Create maps and graphs, using GIS software and data collection equipment.
  • Perform research to obtain and expand existing datasets
  • Gather and report on GIS data and determine how data sets are best utilized through GIS
  • Compile geographic and demographic data from many sources
  • Consult with external stakeholders to access censuses, fieldwork, satellite and aerial imagery, and maps
  • Compile data for statistics to incorporate into documents and reports
  • Build, manipulate, and update databases
  • Enter new map data using cartographic principles
  • Operate and maintain GIS system hardware, software, and peripherals
  • Present information to clients and stakeholders along with recommendations in line with deadlines and expectations

Education and Work Experience:
  • Under-graduate degree, preferably in GIS, Computer Science, or a related, plus a minimum of five years progressively responsible work experience in geospatial database management & analysis. Candidate must also exhibit professional and persuasive writing skills and be proficient in Excel, Access and WORD.
  • 2-3 years RDBMS experience (MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.); must have the ability to write complex, optimized queries across large volumes of data.
  • 2-3 years of experience analyzing and manipulating data from a variety of production systems and data platforms required.
  • Experience in query tuning and database engine optimization.
  • Experience in Data Visualization tools, e.g., Tableau, Power BI, etc.; or other related tools.
