Job Description We have an opening for a Senior Security Software Developerwith a background in cybersecurity technologies or software development. You will provide subject matter expertise in the area of cybersecurity for critical infrastructure systems on a team that researches, designs, develops, maintains, and integrates software and computer system solutions for challenging problems related to the protection and effective use of LLNL computing services and systems, including the high performance computing (HPC) systems, managed by Livermore Computing (LC). This position is in the Computing Directorate's Information Management, Graphics, and Security Group.This is a 50% time appointment.

In this role, you will
  • Design, implement, and maintain software systems that enable secure access and protection against threats and attacks using a best practices approach to support our security strategy and policies.
  • Develop, maintain, and integrate components, such as authentication modules and authorization mechanisms, into open source software packages or commercial products to enhance or extend the security controls and capabilities of our multi-site collaborative environment.
  • Independently investigate anomalies and resolve highly complex problems existing in a heterogeneous distributed environment, interfacing with technical staff throughout the laboratory and other Department of Energy (DOE) Nuclear National Security Administration (NNSA) laboratories.
  • Guide efforts to develop tools or processes for automating deployment, testing, or monitoring procedures that improve the efficiency and operations of the centralized security services.
  • Provide expert security consulting and perform security review and evaluation of proposed system designs, applications and commercial products.
  • Effectively perform duties using independent judgement and under consultative direction.
  • Engage and mentor developers frequently to share relevant expert knowledge, opinions, and recommendations, working to fulfill deliverables as a team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Subject matter expertise and substantial experience implementing solutions using one or more of the following data networking and security technologies: LDAP, RSA SecurID, Kerberos, GSS-API.
  • Highly advanced knowledge of networking and distributed computing concepts.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to contribute to creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Highly advanced knowledge of encryption algorithms and security protocols (RSA, SSL).
  • Highly advanced knowledge of security engineering, application security, system security and/or network security principles.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience designing solutions that offer continuous availability of networked services.
  • Knowledge of security vulnerability analysis techniques and practices.
