Department Summary Located within the Generation Design department, engineering supports modification and new construction projects at electric generation facilities in support of Consumers Energy’s Integrated Resource Plan. The engineering team takes initial concept ideas and coordinates the engineering effort to turn those ideas into fully detailed construction ready designs.

Job Description The Project Engineer works in a team setting in the role of lead and/or support engineer for projects at fossil and hydroelectric generation facilities. The Project Engineer provides support to project managers and engineering team related to the planning, design, and execution of mechanical and/or civil engineering aspects of capital and maintenance projects. The Project Engineer is responsible for adherence to design standards and that detailed designs meet all applicable code, permitting, compliance, and regulatory requirements. The Project Engineer ensures that project work is properly coordinated between internal and external engineers of record, vendors, fabricators, and contractors to meet project requirements. The Project Engineer will perform moderate to complex assignments requiring application of standard techniques, theory, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. The candidate must evaluate, select, and apply engineering theory, techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. The Project Engineer will be required to work efficiently and effectively on small and large project teams, potentially supporting several projects simultaneously.

Core Responsibilities include:
  • Managing and coordinating technical aspects of a project through the duration of the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and/or review engineering drawings and calculations that detail plans and specifications for construction projects at electric generation facilities.
  • Develop and/or review engineering technical specifications and bid documents for consulting services, engineered equipment procurement, and construction service contracts.
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions to technical issues in the field during project execution and/or initial operation.
  • Perform field engineering and on-site support as necessary for the duration of project execution, supporting the resolution of construction issues.
  • Communicate effectively with a vast group of stakeholders to ensure all technical aspects of the project are completed per the safety, scope, schedule, and budgetary objectives.
  • Assist project management and project controls with the development of project schedules and budgets.
  • Attend and/or lead project coordination meetings.
  • Participate in the closeout of projects including turnover of project files and record documents at project closure; captures lessons learned.

The

location for this position is at the Parnall facility in Jackson, MI or remote option within commuting distance to generating facilities

Requirements / Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program as set forth in the Engineers Council for Professional Development
  • Minimum 2 years of applied ABET engineering experience, or college graduates with an advanced Engineering degree.
