Responsibilities:
  • Develop applications, testing and support production environment using mainframe technologies including but not limited: COBOL, MVS, JCL, VSAM, and CICS
  • Participate in building technical designs, programming logic, and workflows
  • Perform business rules extractions and extract code for engineering and/or reusability
  • Participate in meetings and discussions with Functional/Technical Leads to understand the requirements and build out technical designs, programming logic, and workflows
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure the code written complies with the company standards and policies
  • Use industry standard naming conventions, coding standards, problem solving skills and best practices in the SDLC
  • Take initiative to research and resolve any technical issues, or challenges while developing applications
  • Prepare requirements and design documents
  • Write unit tests (document and code) for the application packages
  • Support proper unit testing of artifacts to ensure smooth transition to System Testing and User Acceptance Testing
  • Apply healthcare domain knowledge to verify requirement and code development

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field of study with at least 8 years’ experience as a Mainframe Developer
  • Previous experience with State Medicaid/MMIS projects and/or healthcare
  • Experience extracting Business Rules from code for reengineering and/or reusability
  • Ability to perform documentation of AS-IS Business Rules prior to developing new system/application
  • Strong Knowledge of all phases of application development – SDLC
  • Strong Knowledge of Mainframe application environment: COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM
  • Knowledge of databases such as DB2 or Oracle
  • Knowledge of SQL and stored procedures
  • Prior experience in developing large-scale and complex applications in a mainframe environment
