COBOL Analyst (Business Rules Extraction)

- Develop applications, testing and support production environment using mainframe technologies including but not limited: COBOL, MVS, JCL, VSAM, and CICS
- Participate in building technical designs, programming logic, and workflows
- Perform business rules extractions and extract code for engineering and/or reusability
- Participate in meetings and discussions with Functional/Technical Leads to understand the requirements and build out technical designs, programming logic, and workflows
- Participate in code reviews and ensure the code written complies with the company standards and policies
- Use industry standard naming conventions, coding standards, problem solving skills and best practices in the SDLC
- Take initiative to research and resolve any technical issues, or challenges while developing applications
- Prepare requirements and design documents
- Write unit tests (document and code) for the application packages
- Support proper unit testing of artifacts to ensure smooth transition to System Testing and User Acceptance Testing
- Apply healthcare domain knowledge to verify requirement and code development
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field of study with at least 8 years’ experience as a Mainframe Developer
- Previous experience with State Medicaid/MMIS projects and/or healthcare
- Experience extracting Business Rules from code for reengineering and/or reusability
- Ability to perform documentation of AS-IS Business Rules prior to developing new system/application
- Strong Knowledge of all phases of application development – SDLC
- Strong Knowledge of Mainframe application environment: COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM
- Knowledge of databases such as DB2 or Oracle
- Knowledge of SQL and stored procedures
- Prior experience in developing large-scale and complex applications in a mainframe environment
