General Summary In this role, this employee will serve as the Company's FERC/NERC Compliance Accountable Authority. The definition of an Accountable Authority is – An individual responsible for regulatory compliance in a specific area (in this case FERC/NERC) by assuring that adequate policies, procedures, training and resources are in place, and for assuring continuous improvement in the compliance program. The Accountable Authority is responsible for oversight, coordination, and administration of the FERC/NERC compliance program. This employee in this position should demonstrate expert knowledge of NERC compliance responsibilities to support Bulk Electric System reliability and to mitigate compliance risk that could include penalties up to $1.2 million per day per occurrence. This employee in this position will also lead the administrative oversight and monitoring activities of the Company relative to compliance with FERC regulations.

Job Description/Responsibilities
  • Direct the coordination of Consumers Energy’s FERC, NERC, DOE-EIA, MPSC Electric Code and MISO compliance program and activities, including:
  • Developing and maintaining good technical knowledge of FERC regulations and NERC standards and regional standards applicable to Consumers Energy
  • Guidance to business units for interpreting standards, tracking new standards and revisions to existing standards,
  • Identifying and assessing risks, leading or supporting Peer Assessments to evaluate the adequacy of internal controls to address those risks, and recommending new controls when appropriate; ensuring documentation of all identified risks and controls
  • Reviewing internal documentation and reports for submittal to regulators and reliability organizations
  • Administering and overseeing the development of the FERC and NERC SharePoint site and related technology solutions, which serve as the primary means of information sharing and administration of the compliance program
  • Ensuring processes are documented and communicating processes owned by the department to the appropriate stakeholders
  • Providing periodic status reports to management
  • Recommend and implement FERC/NERC program improvement activities
  • Coordinating and monitoring Issue Resolution activities
  • Interface with ReliabilityFirst on application and interpretation of NERC standards and audits
  • Oversee CMS Enterprises NERC and DOE-EIA compliance program as Accountable Authority. Responsibilities primarily include performing assessments, sharing best practices and assuring recommendations are implemented.
  • Provide leadership and single point of contact responsibilities as EGI or ER&SI representative for various companywide initiatives. Currently serving as Waste Elimination Rally Room Council Team member for EGI and Engineering & Supervision cost reduction Electric Sub-Team lead.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
    • Strong leadership and supervisory skills (7-10+ years, preferred)
    • Expert knowledge of FERC/NERC compliance responsibilities a plus, to support Company strategic planning and operational performance.
    • Auditing, compliance processes, controls and principles
    • Strong research capabilities, particularly on FERC/NERC regulations and standards
    • High proficiency with reviewing, digesting, interpreting and communicating large legal filings

    Requirements/Qualifications
    • Minimum bachelor’s degree in financial discipline or technical field required (business, management, law, engineering or STEM). Advanced business degree or professional certification preferred.
    • 10+ years of applicable experience.

    Primary location is Jackson-Parnall, remote option available within the state of Michigan
